SPINOFF: Come Tomorrow vs the leaked Batson Sessions

I saw in another thread that some prefer Come Tomorrow to the leaked Batson Sessions, and vice versa.

What's your take?

Come Tomorrow is a legit album, I prefer it. There is a lot of potential in the Batson Sessions but as we know them now it's CT for me, by a lot.

Batson Sessions. The songs that made CT from the Sessions (Come On, Can't Stop, Idea of You) all have better versions on the Batson Sessions. VITR, Again & Again, B&BB, DYR are nice songs but I'll take Drive Me Away, Break For It, Kill the King, Break Free, Ask, Situation, Early Home all day.

Drive Me Away, Early Home, Break Free, Kill the King and a rough Shotgun area as good or better than anything off Come Tomorrow. Outside of She and Virginia in the Rain, CT is not an album I plan on revisiting much. I’ve probably already listened to Drive Me Away as much as all the CT tracks combined.

You cant really compare the two and I think it makes it unfair for both sides- but:

Come On, IOY, and Cant Stop are all on the batson sessions so take those away.

People really don't like Samurai Cop, Here on Out, Again and Again, VITR, DYR enough production wise to say its better than unfinished ideas?

I mean I can see why people would think BS are better with some of the melodies and lyrics, but as a whole its not finished at all whereas CT is finished - making it objectively better.

    Come Tomorrow.

Aside from Early Home and Break Free, I have no reason to ever go back to the Batson Sessions. Most of what’s on there sounds as unfinished as it is. Why anyone would compare the two is beyond me.

I find myself going back to CT a lot with the only tracks I skip sometimes being Can’t Stop and She.

So by that logic, Come Tomorrow is better than tLWS. Would you really make that assertion?

No way...Busted Stuff (BS) is the finished version of tLWS (haha, just giving you a hard time)

I thought that CT was okay (some good songs, but some turds too). I prefer the Batson Sessions -- I have listened to these much more than CT

Still haven't got it, if you want to compare something that is close to finished to something that is finished tLWS would be a better example, as a collection of songs nobody is saying CT is better than tLWS

He wasn't comparing them as collections of songs. He said CT is better because it is finished. It being finished, objectively, makes it better.

Go back and read it. I even bolded it to make it easier.

Yeah I agree with him, CT is better than BS because it is a complete album with finished songs as opposed to riffs on repeat for minutes, tLWS is about as close to finished songs as you're going to get.

This is the equivalent of just asking someone if they prefer Big Whiskey over Busted Stuff, or R2T over BTCS. It's just two groups of music from two different eras. yea, I know three songs on CT are from these sessions, but the rest of CT isn't. Useless poll.

Come Tomorrow pretty easily. Batson Sessions were nice to hear, but outside of a handful of tunes (ones outside of ones to make CT), it doesn't do it for me. Some folks had been craving the dark songwriting based on the recent albums, but I enjoy the direction CT took. Dad rock for life.

Aside from the 3-4 completely finished songs, the entire Batson sessions is Dave mumbling nonsense over some decent ideas....Come Tomorrow by far.

would prefer CT to have never been released and this leaked instead and they started playing/working on the 'new' tunes

Also, the timing of the release has a lot to do with me preferring the Batson Sessions. Perfect Fall transitioning into Winter music IMO

At the moment 55.93% of Ants prefer these "unfinished" songs over a polished, released album. That says a lot, doesn't it?

Come Tomorrow easily. There is some great stuff on the Batson Sessions, but as it is Come Tomorrow is much better. Now, if they took the top 12 songs from the Batson Sessions and finished them I may have a different answer.

Come Tomorrow is a really good album.

Re: SPINOFF: Come Tomorrow vs the leaked Batson Sessions

The Dave mumbling/unfinished ideas, in addition to the finished/near finished songs on tBS are better than the officially released songs on CT, and it’s not that close, IMO.

Like someone said earlier: Idea of You, Can’t Stop, and COCO are all better on tBS.

This band has a strange tendency to devolve their songs over time (i.e. Grey Street, Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Shotgun, etc.). It’s like most times they will start out with a solid jam/idea, then either lose interest, simplify it, or overthink it. Obviously this wasn’t the case in the glory days when they seemed to strike gold with every song.

I just don't think you can compare the 2

So say they released the batson sessions as-is to the general public and we never got the Come Tomorrow album, people would be more satisfied?

No, I think everyone would be upset that they aren't finished, and would've wanted a complete album.

And lets be serious, tLWS are wayyy more complete than these sessions.

Why not? We have both. Which one would you rather listen to? Pretty simple.

No, I think everyone would be upset that they aren't finished, and would've wanted a complete album.
But now you're added a third variable for no reason. Even if one would be interested in a finished version of tBS doesn't make CT better than tBS because it's finished. It's not the same songs. Sure, maybe I'd prefer a finished version of Kill the King to an unfinished version (would depend on how they finished it), but that doesn't make a finished version of TGIY better than unfinished Kill the King.

Lets be serious, making completeness the lone barometer of quality is absurd. Bad songs are bad, even if they're perfectly mastered and sitting on the shelf at Target.
