"The Dead" (GD Content)
Follow me on this (none of it is true):
"The Dead" (four surviving members) are getting together for another tour and their only goal, this time around, is to make money. They are throwing artistic integrity in the wind and simply wish to sell out big venue show after show. In order to do this, they plan on rounding out the band w/ some big name personnel and they will stick to the same two sets and encore for the entire tour. The questions I pose are: 1 - Who rounds out the band? 2 - What songs comprise their never-changing setlist? (Keep in mind, they will want to not only attract as many folks as possible in each city, but save some minimal shred of dignity w/ their long-time fans.) Part of what makes them what they are is the unpredictibility and improvisation. Edit: As for the band, I can definitely see Warren Haynes and Jackie Greene being involved. Double edit: I skimmed and didn't realize this was a purely hypothetical post. I'm an idiot.

The intention is 100% fun and games. Reading about The Beach Boys reunion tour and rumors of a Rolling Stones reunion are clearly nostalgia acts to cash in. The more I thought about bands who tour only for nostalgia and have the same cookie cutter show each night, made me think of bands who don't really do that. So, what if they did? In this case, The Dead. If you believe it would be a shitty, greatest hits setlist, go for it.
On a personal note, I have seen every possible incarnation of GD-related bands. (The Other Ones, The Dead, Further, Ratdog, Phil and Friends, etc.) I have nothing but respect for these guys and in my opinion, the Grateful Dead are second to none. This was meant to be a fun game. |
