Bayou

Why does everyone hate Bayou? I personaly love
that song, and the jam after the song is just awsome!!
I mean, it just seems that way cause people all the
time in the review for shows say they could do with out it.
One song I could live without is Grey Street, they play it
too much and I haven't heard it change in a while.

Thoughts?

Same reason why everyone hates Bayou.

It's just a really annoying song.

It's a decent song, it's just not as good as, say, Warehouse.

    Re: Bayou

The main reason why people hate Bayou so much has to do with the fact that it was played 26 times this year. That is WAYYYY too much for a song that never really got much fan support in the first place.

While I have to admit, the song is MUCH better this year than it has been in years past, it's still a pretty lame song.

i like bayou because the band loves playing it. you can really see that they're enjoying themselves and that translates well to me. another song like this is cornbread. while neither is the best song, when i see boyd running across the stage to go play next to fonz or dave dance like hes possessed, i get into the show even more because the band is enjoying themselves.

It's one of those songs that hardcore fans hate and casual fans love. It has energy without substance - the lyrics aren't much and the jam isn't too original.

So if it's your first show you see Boyd going crazy and Carter bashing away so it's a lot of fun. If you've heard the song 10 times before and have looked for depth and haven't found it, it feels like some kid wrote a song in his basement, found out it wasn't very good and played it really loud live to cover that up.

Overplayed, and while lyrically not terrible (except for the Bay-OU!), musically doesn't really go anywhere. The energy of the jam mostly comes from playing louder than from any development.

it definitely has a great energy to it, no one can deny that. but like someone before said....its got little or no substance to it. add on top of that that they play it far too often and have for years, and thats why. grey street is a song with energy and substance, ill take it anytime.

What everyone else said - it's way, way overplayed, and it's the same every time it's played.

However, I think it's great live. Full of energy, and the jam at the end is awesome. The studio cut is terrible.

I've seen it far too many times in the limited amount of shows I go to. But the crowd does indeed love it everytime I see it. A bunch of my friends, who are very casual fans, always seem to come away saying that Bayou was the best song. My dad, who really dislikes DMB, digs Bayou. Strange phenomenon.

I like it in limited rotation midset. With this album tour, I think it would be a good time to ease up on its playing time or put it on the shelf.

The only reason is because it's overplayed. The last 4 summer tours if you go to a 2 night stand you're almost guaranteed to hear Bayou. Prior to that the only songs you might have been sure of hearing were Ants, Billies and Two Step.
