Re: Dating is miserable

Last night my girlfriend was over and said to me “I was reading a list of things (questions) to determine how your relationship is going” or something like that. How to judge how strong it is I guess.

And I’m like great, I hate those things I thought to myself …..I goes this one asked you Yes or No to all the things you did last year.

She goes on to say we did really well on the “test”, we did them all except one. Have sex is a strange (or risky) place .

I named a few places we did it, some very inappropriate and she said that was the year before, 2021.

So, my work is cut out for me this year. I will not fail!!

And all you with a SO, or just someone to get busy with, don’t forget to get get down in some crazy places this year. Apparently it’s good for your relationship.

(PS I will try to find the story she was reading)

I miss having sex in "risky" places. I'm just glad to still have it

Smudge, I'm going to give you some advice that's probably unpopular. (also, how old are you? You can give me a range, just might assist in the advice)

Try to get 3+ women in your rotation who you are at least talking to. Never put your eggs in one basket over an app. That's reserved for after you've known them for a bit, done the business, see what they are all about.

If anyone disagrees with this, ask a single woman friend of yours how many matches they get on a regular basis. They do the same thing.

I don't understand this line of thinking at all, can't imagine having to tread lightly around the music I connect with because of the person I'm dating and vice versa

I've always found polarity to be a great thing in relationships. Obviously not on everything, but it keeps you both interested. My girlfriend and I could not have more different musical tastes. I fucking hate Taylor Swift and she's a super fan. She hates DMB, I clearly enjoy them. But we've found some overlap in some artists her and I never would have been exposed to if not for the other.

It's actually kind of funny in my current relationship when it comes to music, she is way more in tune with what is currently popular, helps me figure out ideas for covers for gigs. It makes me feel like an old man

My wife and I both hate Taylor Swift, so that works too

But, I agree. Polarity in anything is a good thing. We root for different sports teams and have different hobbies and interests that over time we've introduced each other to. Never hide an interest of yours, even if it's super weird, because you're eventually gonna have to "admit to it."

So far the new girl has shit on First Aid Kit, Glen Hansard, The National, and Jason Isbell. She has a passing knowledge of DMB and is indifferent. The only real overlap so far is Taylor Swift.

Downloaded the apps again a few weeks ago only to delete them again a few days later. I am going to Europe in July with an old fling that I know will probably not stay platonic while we are there and I couldn't in good conscience go on the apps and try to date people knowing I'm not able to actually commit.

For reference the old fling is out of state and just moved to KC. We never dated, just hooked up a few times and stayed in touch over the years. She has since been married and divorced while I moved to Denver and had my own long term relationship blossom and die over the same course of time.

I mentally feel so much better when I'm not on those apps.

I forgot about this thread. I read through Tylers most recent troubles, then looked back at my previous posts and all I can say dude is stop wanting it so much before you hit your 30s and realize your relationship/hookup history is a collection of train wrecks and ridiculous stories with you playing the part of the jackass in every single one. Only way you're going to learn what you're doing wrong is to stop being afraid of doing it wrong and just go for what you want. If you don't know what you want, then either take the time to figure it out or try out a bunch of different things. Either way, the more in your head you get about things the worse they're going to turn out for you. If you're at the point of asking for advice about a girl on a DMB message board, maybe just message her instead. Most of the time, at least in my experience, when you turn to an online advice source you're just looking to be told that you're right or to be reassured. None of us can do that for you, the only one who can is you. Sometimes it means you've gotta do something scary like be honest about what you want and risk a negative outcome. But it's better to do it that way than to obsess over it and build it up to much more than it is and end up with a negative anyway.

Just a lot of good signs for a second date. Last night she said maybe next time we will hookup. Then I came to the restaurant she works at. She gave me a free beer. She said she wanted to stay and talk longer, but she has to go back to work.
