I fully agree with you here.

But I also LMAO at anyone that doesn't have Pulp Fiction as the clear #1. It's not only HIS best film, it's pretty much a guaranteed Top 4/5 film of the 90s, which was a pretty damn good decade for film.

Girls in bikinis shooting guns? Stupid
Chris Tucker? Terrible flavor of the day casting
Samuel L. Jackson has a skinny ponytail chin beard? Neat
De Niro playing an oaf? Yawn
    Bridget Fonda? See Chris Tucker

    Wasn't impressed with Pam Grier.
    Robert Forster was fine.
Elmore Leonard adaptations suck. Get Shorty is terrible. Out of Sight is OK, but still overrated.

We probably should distinguish between "best" and "more enjoyable," unless you're claiming it's both, which I'll definitely disagree with.

Pulp is almost a flawless technical film, and it shows in its influence and staying power, not only through the decade but nearly 30 years later. And I do think there are parts of Basterds that are in that realm, notably the first 20-25 minutes of the film, which might well be the best 25 minutes of writing and shooting he's ever done. But I can't agree that it's a better piece of art than Pulp.

More enjoyable? Not for me, but I can see that argument being made.

I don’t do ratings lists, but Reservoir Dogs was my favorite until Jackie Brown came out, Jackie Brown was my favorite until Hateful 8 came out.

    Mister Rogers Neighborhood movie.

I liked it. I read the original piece that spurred the movie. Very interesting.

Then watched old videos of his. He truly was a great human being.

I just happened to stumble across the movie last night in f/x or something. It’s not available for free on any service I have.

Why would I have a hat?

Like I said - there's a big difference between "best" and "most enjoyable." So I guess it depends on how one is crafting one's list. Big Lebowski is my favorite Coen movie. It's by no means their best.

    Seven Samurai (1952) 8.5/10

This one got better as it went along, because it's a long trip at 3.5 hours. Many rank this as one of the very best films of all time, and I am guessing a number of the tropes we see in "group" ensemble movies may have been born from this one.

The characters are just so well developed. The crazy bombastic guy initially took me time, but he is lovable and a great source of comedic relief. He is an anime character, very clear that animes have based some of their characters on him.

The wise leader guy was awesome. Very strong Katzumodo vibes in the Last Samurai, definitely seemed to be channeling his character.

A good movie, and memorable. Not something I'd rewatch again (maybe the last 30 minutes), but it is certainly memorable.

Watching The Mauratanian and legit thought the main character was being played by Telly from Kids. I was blown away by his performance. But then I was like, there's no way that dude speaks Arabic, so I googled it, and yea, it's not him.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. The acting is obviously great but the minimalist art direction and cinematography really put it over the edge for me. I can really fuck with some Shakespeare adaptations; Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet might be in my top 10 movies ever.

#19 was the newest Ghostbusters. I enjoyed it enough. Too bad the big baddie was a repeat though.

In unrelated news, David Lynch is 76 today. I've never watched Inland Empire. That might be next. I've also never seen Twin Peaks, so I should start that soon.

I bought the DVD of that when I was in college, watched it once, but have never watched it again. It's one of those movies that I recognize as being important, but don't necessarily enjoy watching.

I've been wanting to watch that. People I follow on Twitter have been geeking out about the cinematography over the last week or two. It looks amazing.
