At this point - DMB, D&T, D&F, or Dave solo?

What would you rather see live (and possibly make some new material), if there's no replacement for BT?

I'm actually surprising myself and would LOVE to see D&F

Would like to hear DMB with a replacement for Boyd. Think the sound can greatly improve. After that DMB with no replacement and then D&T.

Easiest question ever. Fonz, Carter, Dave, Rashawn, Jeff, Tim.

    DMB IV

I would quite enjoy a comfortable string of D&T shows after this tour is over tho

DMB with no boyd and a new violinist. I might even buy more tickets.

Of those four, easily DMB with no Boyd but I do hope there is still a violinist as it says “DMB without Boyd” not “DMB without a violinist”

Re: At this point - DMB, D&T, D&F, or Dave solo?

My answer to this question is the same no matter who is in DMB. I have always wanted to see more Dave & Friends. I love Dave and Trey together and at this point I would prefer to see them (although I have felt that way for a while).

Don't get me wrong, I love the Dave Matthews Band and still get such a high from listening to their records and live shows of the past. I have just felt like their music and energy at shows has changed a lot over the past 5-10 years. The Dave Matthews Band from the 1990's-2004/5 era is over. I loved their 2009 tour and thought they brought it back in a big way, but overall, I just want to hear the best music I can.

I don't believe that DMB is capable of that anymore with or without Boyd. Their high energy jazz infused sound is what drew me to the band. Over the past several years they have turned into a rock band. I just don't think they do the rock band thing as well as Dave & Friends does. I also don't listen to DMB for that sound as it is not what separates them from the pack. Their unique sound is what always made them stand out and they have moved away from that live. So as a result, I would be more interested in hearing Dave & Friends tour. I am always down for a Dave & Tim tour too though!

The news about Boyd only further solidifies my opinion because without him it seems like it is even less likely that they will return to their jazz roots any time soon.

Side note: I am only really talking about the band as a live touring act. I am still excited to see what they produce in the studio as I like Dave's writing and still think he is an amazing and talented song writer!

The lines between DMB and Dave & Friends have blurred. At this point, the only thing that's really keeping it DMB is that Carter is still on the drums. Once Carter decides to retire, it will effectively just be Dave Matthews + whoever. Which is the way I always figured this would go down as the band aged.

D&T for sure. I've seen enough of the band, plus I love the intimate setting of D&T. Went to my first show last summer and it totally refreshed my view of Dave's music.

I saw D+F in '03 and loved the show especially Trey's contribution, but I gotta get my Carter Beauford fix somehow. Is there an option for Carter solo shows? I wouldn't mind watching him just drum for an hour.

DMB for sure. Can't stand the Dave and Tim crowds, literally so drunk they are falling over rows, yelling and talking during every song, etc. At least at DMB those people are drowned out by the songs.

I primarily go to shows because carter is a beast, so if carter is playing I'll be going when I can. I enjoy D&T so would go to a show a year, maybe two if they were spread apart. I really don't have much interest in Dave and friends, unless of course carter is a friend.

Were it not for Carter, I'd probably be fine with Dave and Tim tours - I love the other members (both, founding and touring) but Carter is a large part of the reason I initially followed the band + the 90s Dave lyrics.

This is correct and once Carter goes it becomes official. The Dmb sound that made them dmb has been gone since 08. Dmb 3.0 is much more Dave and friends sounding then they did in the past.
I said before I thought the some of the newer songs had a some devil vibe and thought the new album might have that same feel, especially with trouble popping up. Whatever the case with Boyd it didnt just happen last night, and I'm sure Dave has plans to move forward.
