Re: Alpine Valley Update
Wife and I just got back from a little weekend trip to Lake Geneva. On our way there we went to Alpine Valley to do a little hiking around, and we had never seen the resort or ever been there other than on a concert weekend. We hiked around the golf course a bit and got up the fence on the back side of the pavilion/stage. I was trying to see if I could notice any renovations, but it was hard to really tell or see much from that back side.
Something we did learn a little about though was some apparent flooding they had there this summer. We were walking on that hilly road that connects the farther out lot- the road that you would exit on if you had premier parking- and noticed there was a huge wash out in the dip. Part of the road itself was broken away, and the earth all around it was washed out and in rough shape. Then later we walked around the resort, and noticed that we could see in the lower level units pretty easily and that stuff inside was tore up. While we were peaking through the glass, a nice ski instructor guy came over and started chatting us up, and said that they had bad flooding in June, and that the units were all having to get re-carpeted and fixed.
It got me thinking about what would have happened if there had been concerts there this year, and the resort was booked out, and then all the bottom units got wrecked a couple weeks before the show, as well as access roads to the venue.
Also, it was funny, the guy we talked to just out of nowhere felt he had to start defending the rooms, and say that he "knows people like to go online and rip on these rooms, but they're supposed to be rustic". He did also acknowledge that it's probably for the best at least some of the units are getting redone now, cause they needed it anyways.
Anyway, nothing super huge, just a little update after a visit there.
