Repeated/Reused Lyrics on CT

Two different songs each have lyrics referencing:


Stars shining
Dave being the king, woman being the queen
A woman's "poison"


And that's just what I've noticed from only two listens straight through. We've reached the absolute rock bottom of Dave's lyrical abilities. I like a decent amount of what's happening musically on this album, but good grief, man. Branch out a little bit or write fewer songs.

"Jump in the mud oh, get your hands dirty" - everyday

"Oh just groping you, rolling in the mud" - stay (wasting time)

"We can just dump this mud in the Chicago River" - Boyd Tinsley's tour bus driver back in 2004

Of course, but this isn't really relevant. Come Tomorrow isn't a concept album. It has a general theme, that's about it. Come Tomorrow is more a collection of songs than an album.

It's not abnormal for Dave to reuse lyrics. It's very common when you compare a lot of his songs.

I understand what you guys mean for sure. and yes he does reuse lyrics as a lot of artists do, especially Springsteen. this isn't your usual concept album in it's original sense. but they believe it to be close enough to a concept album because it's driven by a collected theme. so in my mind connecting songs together on this album by doing that reiterates that theme, that's all i'm saying.

I'm not one who gripes too much about lyrics, and I don't expect every song to be the Dreaming Tree (for example there's nothing on Come Tomorrow that I really take issue with, I don't mind simple) but that line is so mind-bogglingly awful that to this day I wonder how he wrote that and thought people should hear it.
