Tressel done in Columbus?

This blogger is a friend of mine and claims his sources are reliable. Very unique situation, as he is the ONLY one reporting this and has been taking personal attacks all day from OSU fans as a result. He texted me saying his sources are "very well-placed" and stands by them 100%. I guess we'll see.

here's the problem with recruiting sources, they're supposed to tell potential Ohio St recruits that Tressel won't be back. I don't like the source on that rumor.

Yeah. Still don't believe it. Someone else would be running with it if it was legit.

Nah, stuff like this always start up after a school gets hit with any sort of NCAA sanctions. The Vest will be back.

I'd be shocked if it happened, but when and if Tressel does leave, Ohio State's program is strong enough that the right hire will do just fine. In fact, no one even knew who Tressel was when he was hired.

Who the hell wouldn't want to coach Ohio State? A bajillion dollar budget and top notch facilities, plus a nice stadium/campus area to promote. Doesn't get any easier than that.

Ohio State isn't an easy sell on the nightlife. College life is the nightlife. But the campus is tits.

Aside from the whole making everything up thing I love the part about OSU having the most violations in the country and conveniently leaving out the part that these violations are from every sport combined, (which is obvious disingenuous considering we're talking about a football coach), that OSU fields more varsity teams than any other school in the country with 36, and of course that violations reported by compliance departments is not even close to the same thing as violations occurred.

    Good little article otherwise though.

i'm not saying that smith is just covering up until after the bowl game, but its not like it would be the first time a team ever covered their asses for a week or two and then did a 180 on what they originally said.

I wasn't posting it as the end all be all. Just posting it for anyone to see. Similar situations have definitely happened before.

If Tressel were to leave this year, it would be because he wanted to suspend the players and someone in the athletic department (or even university) said no and that he felt he had lost control of the program.

It actually has nothing to do with the recent allegations, or sanctions, or anything of that sort. He's accepted an offer to coach the Bengals. This has been all over Cincinnati media all day.

I doubt it. He's a NE Ohio guy.

With the Penn St rumors of JoePa retiring after the bowl, and now this, this is just negative recruiting by other big ten schools.

I think Tressel would not make it long as an NFL coach. The Buckeyes under him have never been known for making great in-game adjustments and in the NFL that's what it's all about.

As has this. My point is when two top schools from the conference are having "rumors" about their coach leaving, it is probably negative recruiting from other schools.

Just slightly less likely is Tressel leaving to coach in the NFL. His next step is OSU AD or Big Ten commish.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the rumor. I have a buddy that works for the the sports dept. of a prominent local paper in PA and I heard about JoePa rumor a week ago and the Tressel rumor a couple of days ago. The coach that PSU is rumored to be going after is Tony Dungy. Supposedly the two have already talked and if JoePa does step down Dungy has already committed himself to the job. Haven't heard much on the Tressel front other than he won't be at OSU next season.

Not really. Except for 2006, Carr struggled his last years at Michigan.

but JoePa has been rumored to have been retiring/released for the better part of this past decade. very different situation than Tressel.
