Re: Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions
I did Vegas my first and only time on the cheap. About 320 total airfare, my share of the room at Mandalay for three nights was like $200 but we got a pretty good deal and we packed 8 and the suite (2 beds, a rollaway, 2 couches, and two recliners, spread out in a bedroom/living room deal) wasn't overcrowded); plus it was college friends that I used to be suitemates/roommates with, so just like old times. Pack a few people in a room if you can stand it.
Drinks are free if you're gambling. If you haven't played poker and had a few drinks at a poker night, don't start in any form in Vegas. Alcohol and gambling are a bad mix. If you're a cheap fuck like me play penny slots near a band or entertainment, slowly...and move every 10-15 minutes so you get a new waitress. Get shitfaced for free/cheap. Don't be afraid to ask for a strong drink, because otherwise they're watered down.
Buffets are a ripoff. There are McDs in fucking hotels and along the strip. Lagasse's stadium isn't a bad place to catch a game, reasonable (i.e under 20) burger prices.
Women do not hit on you, good chance they're "working" but use your own judgement.
If you're looking for drugs, find a VIP party host or slip a cabbie a note with your tip. They're taped, so asking them verbally might not work. Or you can ask them to take you to North Vegas, at your own risk, or Freemont, that's where we bought our party accessories. Use common street smarts.
If you're from back east, hit up In and Out.
Hussongs Cantina in the Shoppes between Luxor and Mandalay is the best (and good price) Mexican I've ever had. They only have one other location, in Mexico.
Burger Bar (next door) is decent as well.
StripSteak sucks...unless you like paying $50+ for a 6 oz portion of meat.
Avoid wave pools and adult pool parties...go to clubs instead if you want to get laid. Wave pools are literally like that South Park episode, "Pi Pi's Slashdown"
If you aren't the best money manager, either leave some money back home with a trusted friend or family member to wire you or appoint a treasurer. Or have a credit card...or not. Crazy shit can happen.
I made $40+ around 4am by checking slot machines that hadn't been cashed out. Hobos do it. People just forget.
