Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions

As the title might elude, I am looking for tips/suggestions on Vegas from those who have been there.

I am heading there this weekend and it will be my first time

Interested to hear anything you might have to say on this topic.

    1. Minimize your use of quotation marks. It can lead to "confusion."

Don't go to Circus Circus, unless you're there for the sole purpose of going to The Steakhouse.

Don't call any of the phone numbers handed to you...also, don't hold your bourbon in your left hand.

Don't buy cocaine off a random guy on the strip. It's fake.

    HaufBrauHaus - killer German food.

If you wanna see where they film Hardcore Pawn you can, just be advised its in the ghetto.

The Venetian, when I was there, had the best payouts, Planet Hollywood and the Mirage had the worst.

Prepare to be handed a hundred cards by "porn slippers", as they're called. For escorts and whatnot.

Check out the fire/fountain show at the Mirage at night.

Also, there's a legit pirate/siren show a little ways down after that.

Andre's Restaurant in Monte Carlo is one of the better restaurants I've ever been to, but it's very small. Like, maybe ten tables.

    Re: Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions

I did Vegas my first and only time on the cheap. About 320 total airfare, my share of the room at Mandalay for three nights was like $200 but we got a pretty good deal and we packed 8 and the suite (2 beds, a rollaway, 2 couches, and two recliners, spread out in a bedroom/living room deal) wasn't overcrowded); plus it was college friends that I used to be suitemates/roommates with, so just like old times. Pack a few people in a room if you can stand it.

Drinks are free if you're gambling. If you haven't played poker and had a few drinks at a poker night, don't start in any form in Vegas. Alcohol and gambling are a bad mix. If you're a cheap fuck like me play penny slots near a band or entertainment, slowly...and move every 10-15 minutes so you get a new waitress. Get shitfaced for free/cheap. Don't be afraid to ask for a strong drink, because otherwise they're watered down.

Buffets are a ripoff. There are McDs in fucking hotels and along the strip. Lagasse's stadium isn't a bad place to catch a game, reasonable (i.e under 20) burger prices.

Women do not hit on you, good chance they're "working" but use your own judgement.

If you're looking for drugs, find a VIP party host or slip a cabbie a note with your tip. They're taped, so asking them verbally might not work. Or you can ask them to take you to North Vegas, at your own risk, or Freemont, that's where we bought our party accessories. Use common street smarts.

If you're from back east, hit up In and Out.

Hussongs Cantina in the Shoppes between Luxor and Mandalay is the best (and good price) Mexican I've ever had. They only have one other location, in Mexico.

Burger Bar (next door) is decent as well.

StripSteak sucks...unless you like paying $50+ for a 6 oz portion of meat.

Avoid wave pools and adult pool parties...go to clubs instead if you want to get laid. Wave pools are literally like that South Park episode, "Pi Pi's Slashdown"

If you aren't the best money manager, either leave some money back home with a trusted friend or family member to wire you or appoint a treasurer. Or have a credit card...or not. Crazy shit can happen.

I made $40+ around 4am by checking slot machines that hadn't been cashed out. Hobos do it. People just forget.

The Luxor has "the big piece" of the Titanic, an actual big chunk of hull that you can touch. If you're into Titanic history, it's a must see.

Anything really. I guess my biggest question might be dress code for guys at nightclubs. Not a house music person, but the some people in my group are. I imagine we will end up at nightclub where I feel out of my element.

Most clubs will let you in wearing whatever as long as you don't look trashy. Jeans and dress shirts, polos or "stylish" tees are all acceptable. Wear either dressy shoes or nice/new sneakers.

    Do: see love
Don't: go any further north than the Wynn/encore

Do: buy $1 water bottles from the people selling them on the strip
Don't: eat at any Gordon Ramsay restaurant

Do: if you plan on hitting up as many places you can, buy a 24 hr tram pass
Don't: gamble anywhere in city center
