As someone who has worked in Major League Soccer, let me tell you, the team DOES NOT have the money. Shit, the league barely has the money. I have to imagine that their major sponsors have a large role in paying this deal. The weight of the league is on this contract and the success of Beckham in the MLS.

I'm guessing this decision was made by Posh and wanting to be in the LA limelight. If Columbus offered him the same amount rather than LA, Becks would have stayed in Europe.

Definitely - every team in the league should be paying money toward this deal. Becasuse that's exactly who this is for - this doesn't really have anythign to do with the team - it's all about the league.

This really is Pele coming to the NASL all over again. Hopefully they'll be able to draw some other big players so by the time Beckham leaves/retires, there's still some interest. With Pele, that's really all there was - some other bigger name players came (that guy from Italy, can't remember his name) but it wasn't enough. The league rose and fell with him. We'll see whether the same happens with MLS.

Cool - I didn't know there was a pro indoor league still. I've just started playing indoor - for about 3 years now. It's a TOTALLY different game than outdoor - it would be cool to see people playing that actully know what they're doing. My team is just idiots running around in circles, waiting for that perfect moment when you can leagally check someone and slam them into the boards (well, the slamming isn't exactly legal, but it is fun).

More like Reggie White and Jim Kelly playing in the USFL (which they did). It is inferior but it is because they have not been able to land or pay talent like Beckham, mostly because the interest just isnt here. If they can generate interest and run their business the right way the talent level can increase.
