Bartender Pennywhistle

True story. I love this song (who doesn't,) and it's on heavy rotation (Alpine Valley Live Trax) when I'm driving. However everytime the pennywhistle part comes on, it's ALWAYS as I'm pulling off the highway or freeway and cruising about 25 MPH through town. I mean, always. Do any of you ever get the "what the hell are you listening to" stare like I get when I'm stopped at a red light or stuck in traffic, etc? I mean, seriously. I don't care cos that part's just as good as any part of the song, but I swear people think I'm listening to "Tip Toe'in Through the Tulips" or something. My buddy actually brought this up to me one day too, which was amazing considering my wife and I had just discussed it a day or two before he did!

Does this (or any) DMB song get you weird stares when you're listening to it?

Say Goodbye intro's always get me some crazy looks. Carters work on the toms gets a few since there's no supporting instruments behind it but then when Roi comes in with the flute... oh man those looks are hilarious. But I blast it proud.

Reminds me of someone who posted on here when SMLAM leaked. He was listening to it in his house and his roommate thought it was a commercial for Buick on the radio. I had to laugh.

Why would you care?....to me the Jeff Coffin Pennywhistle is the best thing to happen to bartender...yeah, it sounds like John Williams composed it, but it's awesome. Personally, I think it's pathetic walking into a white guy's house, or pulling up next to a white guy's car and he has akon or bow wow blaring through his speakers. People now are just so used to the shit they play on the radio that they think anything that is actually well composed, has more than just a simple verse and chorus, no synthesizers, and involves quite a few talented musicians showing off their skills is bad music. People need to grow up and realize what good music is, and it isn't just Dave Matthews Band.

One of my friends walked up my driveway yesterday while I Say Goodbye was just starting. He asked me why my speakers were broken. I started laughing and just turned it off. He still doesn't understand what happened.

I was listening to my ipod loud enough that you could hear Tim's LIOG solo from L@RC from a few feet away. A few people were like, " What the fuck are you listening to?"

I always feel a bit awkward when listening to any version of Halloween in the car with the windows down... People don't get the screaming I guess.

Did I say I cared? HELL NO. I love DMB, and I could give two shits what anyone else thinks of it. I'm well beyond the age of worrying what judgemental pricks may think. No, the topic of this thread is to stimulate conversation, which is the whole point of the forum, right? Like the Peter Pan comparison...that's some funny shit!

Pulled into the parking lot for football practice in high school, windows down and blaring BTCS. Turns out the part that was playing right when I got there was "makes me wanna, makes me wanna STAY!" from the Lovely Ladies. Yeah, that wasn't a very good practice.

My elderly neighbors love me too, I always get that look. So I try and hit a "Dave Screaming" moment as I pull into my driveway. I'm sure my entire street loves me and knows when I am driving by. 'Specially when I come home around 11 or midnight after work. Hey, at least I keep the windows up during those hours!

During classes last year we somehow were discussing the topic "love". the teacher came up with the idea that everyone should pick their favourite love-related song, put it on a usb stick together with the lyrics and show it to the class with the help of our projector + tell the others what's so special about the song and what we relate to it, etc...

well, long story short: my friend was playing halloween from LT9 with maximum volume (cause it's not as long as the other ones and still very powerful) and everybody was making a pretty strange face. in fact is was the only song during no one spoke a word.

    that was funny as hell
