Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Package on Netflix.

It's a Netflix original and may be the most important movie of the last two millennia.

and I mean, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight, that is one of the best 3 film directorial runs of the last 20 years. Thank god for the day that Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale and Michael Caine all met.
I feel like a decent argument could even be made for a run of 4 straight when throwing Inception in there as well, but I understand that may not be as universally held high. But no reasonable person could bet against the first 3, at least.
The Prestige is a masterwork. Incredible story, great performances, gripping imagery...what more could you ask for. I'm pretty sure I never even bothered to notice that it was a Nolan film. I wish more of his movies were on this level.

The tile is literally an eggplant with nothing else on it. Had no idea what the hell it was. Then the preview started.

It's funny, it feels like each time I rewatch The Prestige, it only gets better, meanwhile every time I rewatch The Dark Knight Rises it only gets worse

I remember first walking out of the theater pretty much singing its praises, thinking a great way to end the trilogy. And I mean, the scope is still there, the incredible filmmaking is still there, but holy moly is the script and in particular the pacing just a tornado of inconsistency. Once they get to the second half of the movie, they've thrown any care of logic out the window. What I especially noticed this last time, when they say there's only 45 minutes left before the bomb detonates on his own, it's literally pitch black outside. Then what would have to be at the very least about 4 hours worth of stuff happens in broad daylight before it gets to zero

The Prestige is definitely elite; tied with Batman Begins for my favorite Nolan film.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Funny little underrated film and Shane Black's director debut. RDJ and Val Kilmer have good chemistry and Michelle Monaghan is a celebrity crush of mine.

I heard brad bird in an interview say that his original idea for the story for the first incredibles related to helen being the person on assignment with bob having to deal with life at home for a bit. so he likely at least had certain story beats plotted out for a while to use in I2

I like the first better because it's the one that builds the world it inhabits. It feels a lot more unique to me than the second one. Both are very good though.

Speaking of puppets, I'd really, really appreciate another Team America movie from Stone/Parker. They have so much material at their expense

The Road (on Netflix for not too much longer I think)

Last time I saw this was when it first came out in 2009. It really is depressing and it kind of misses the mark in a few areas. Some parts are downright terrifying as they should be. Seems like the movie should have been longer to flesh out the story, but oddly enough making it longer probably wouldn't have made it better overall. Just sort of felt like they had a lot of ideas they wanted to get across, but left most of them a little less baked than others. Almost like a more serious, but less well thought out version of The Walking Dead.

I actually thought Book Of Eli captured the spirit of the book.

At least that’s what I remember thinking 8 years ago

    OCEAN'S 8

I think I said this when the trailer came out, I had a reasonable amount of anticipation for this, just from being a big heist film fan. Unlike the trolls, I didn't care about the "all female" thing (just like I couldn't give a shit the Ghostbusters was an all female team, my problem was I didn't think ANY new Ghostbusters movie should be made, even with the old cast) but my concern was it looked like they were going to stick to the Ocean's 11 structure too much. And unfortunately that's what I got. I swear it's like there were some scenes they directly lifted, just changed character names. You got Debbie Ocean (Danny's sister) wanting to do a big job after the same exact amount of prison time (5 years), the scene where her right hand woman asks why she has to do this, and then right in the middle the same moment where the right hand woman finds out a sub-part of Debbie's plan is tied directly to her old flame and confronts her about it.

Not to mention the complete tonal shift they pull with the James Corden character.

Got an email from moviepass today. They want to change annual subscribers (like me) to the 3 movie plan like the monthly subscribers, but to do so, they need to get my permission to change the TOS. So I have until 8.31 to accept (automatically) or cancel, and I can get a pro-rated refund (and I can't sign up for movie pass for 9 months lol). Looks like I am going to bet about $50 back. Going to see if I can get one or 2 more in before I cancel.

I liked both quite a bit. The book is disturbingly good. The movie less so, but still very good to me. They actually shot some of the more gruesome scenes from the book, but cut them from the film because someone felt it was too much.

not really sure why everyone isn't still on moviepass to be honest, even with all the changes. you can still game the system. my gf and I bought tickets through moviepass last weekend for slender man and went and actually saw christopher robbin at a similar time. worked like a charm.

I've thought about that, but most theaters around me have assigned seating, and I prefer some specific parts of the theater to sit in.
