I'm a catch and release surf fisherman and I love spending time out on the water.

If that counts.

I've only used the old school shoes once, and I found that I had more control/ankle support on the new ones. I also like the new titanium ones b/c the shape gives you more stability, IMO at least.

I was excited yesterday when I got the latest backpacker mag in the mail, until I opened it up and the ENTIRE issue is about global warming. I can understand a devoted section, but I'm really disappointed they didn't have their usual stuff in there. And Stone Mountain, GA was listed in the back as a low impact hike, that is complete bullshit. The trails AROUND the bottom of the mountain are, but it is virtually a complete vertical hike up the actual mountain. Try that while holding a whiney tired kid, too.

Nope. The worst I have ever seen. I'm so pissed I'm gonna write a letter to the editor. Let me know what you think of the issue when you read it.

EDIT: I was like wtf halfway thru reading it, and turned to look at the cover again to see if it was even mentioned on there that it was a global warming issue, but the cover looked like it does usually.

Are you holding your nose in the cliffdiving pic?

I love cliffdiving because of that feeling you get where you're gonna absolutely freak-out..then boom, you hit the water.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been a DMB fan for a long time, been a member here a while, but never really got into posting. But lately I'm getting into it!

Anyway, I live in Delaware, which is flat and boring except for the ocean. I love to hike and bike, and used to climb in college. I've been hiking in most parts of the country, I'd like to hear people's favorites, etc!

Just wondering if anyone here has had experience with Arc'Teryx jackets and gear. Are they worth the price? I want to find one of their lighter-weight jackets but I'm scared to spend that much money.
They make good stuff, but you're paying for the name. I would find out the material of the product you want, and then look for the same material in a different brand on Sierra Trading Post. Most of the stuff is last year's model, but it will save you a lot of loot! And, sometimes they do have Arc'Teryx stuff there.

^long time fan of both, too. favorite so far is the AT-been thru some in GA, and a good section of the NC portion. One day hope to do the triple crown.

^I also love the AT...been on many sections in the northeast and middle states. The only southern area I've been on was in the Smokies. My wife and I absolutely loved the Smokies! We're going to try and make it an every year trip.

i love everything about being outside... i try to get out as often as i can. as for activities, i'm obsessed with anything involving water. i love hiking too, and recently went on some outrageous hikes in costa rica, and me and my bf just went climbing all over the cliffs of the grand canyon a few weeks ago which was amazing...i can't believe they let you explore right around to the edge and don't have any rails so people don't fall over, it was cool as shit to get so close to the edge though, i'll post some ridiculous pics of it later.

Lot of adventurous types round here by the looks of it, climbing hiking etc.

I do a lot of XC riding up around some state forests etc. about 30mins - 1hr from where I live (which I'm certain you guys wouldnt be familiar with) on my nice, non Kmart (Walmart for you guys in the US) bike. It's disappointing to see people trailbashing and skidding all over the place thinking they're top shit on their 'awesome' Huffy bikes. Have done some abseiling and climbing in the past, would definately do it again/more often if I had the time and money - which, alas, I don't. It all goes into more mtb stuff!

Got stuck in a massive thunderstorm in cloudland canyon yesterday, about 3 milies from our car....water poured from the skies drenching us even through thick forest of canopies overhead. Unbelievable. Very interesting experience, didn't get home til about 1am and still soaked to the bone.

We just got back from a week in the Adirondacks. It was our first time there, and we absolutely loved it! We took the ferry over to Burlington one day, and I must say it's my new favorite small city in the country. Reminded us very much of Charlottesville. Anyway check out this bluegrass band we saw performing on the street....http://www.thepowderkegs.com/

We only climbed one 46er while we were there, Giant. Anyone done any hiking/climbing in the area? We're going to try and get back next year.......it's a freakin huge area!

Cuz I quit my regular 9-5! I'm still working part time as a microbiologist, and I'm looking to totally switch gears, I just got another part time job working in a toy store! Living my 2nd childhood! Money doesn't mean everything to me, I need time to get outside and live...although we've been having 100+ temps lately, can't go out much.....is it fall yet???

The real question should be is it ski season yet?

seriously! I am much closer to the mountains now, thank goodness. my ass still is too chicken to do some hardcore skiing, but I can handle my own a lil bit. I've only gone a few times, but this year I'd like to try snowboarding.

Oh, and I tried like hell to get a job at an outdoor retailer, but all the college kids haven't left there yet so they're not hiring. Hopefully, they will cuz I really want the discount for gear!

    Great thread.

I fish all the time along the Texas coast. I pretty much bay fish only (Baffin Bay). The family has a bay boat and a old cabin in Baffin Bay. It's was built in the 50s and has survived two direct hurricanes. The latest one almost took it out.

We also have a pecan orchard in central texas. I'm heading out tomorrow to paint our fence and shred some of the grass out there. All the flooding in Texas is making everything grow way to fast. Being outdoors is one of the greatest things in life
