If it keeps going, and they stop going to shows, they'll feel like they wasted so much time and money on something they grew bored of. If it ends, then they'll feel justified in their spending since its over and they can't do it anymore.

The idea of the band going on without their fandom scares them.
This is the biggest crock of shit.

Why can't you accept that some of us have cut back on shows (or stopped going altogether) because the quality of the product has declined? It's so fucking ignorant to constantly blame the fans for something that lies just as much with the band.

I don't feel like I wasted time with DMB. I saw some amazing shows and made some great memories. I admit that I wish I spent some of that time with other bands, but that doesn't change the fun I had seeing DMB.

When it's over, I'll be sad, but I don't care if it ends now or in 20 years.

I don't believe the love of playing or even the grind of touring will stop them. I think it will be family. Dave and Carter's oldest kids are close to, if not right around high school age now if I recall correctly. Oh, and Dave will be 50 in 2 years...

They may simply want to be around more...

I certainly could foresee a time in the next 5 years that they play 20-25 shows a year with smaller, midweek venues off the schedule.

My 2 cents: DMB should split up, let them all go pursue their own interests, make their own music (if they still have any desire to at this point). I'm ready to see what a Dave Matthews solo career looks like. I'm ready to see Stefan found his own band.

Why in the world would they tour all through their kids childhoods just to stop when they are nearly grown? That logic makes zero sense.

no. he has carpel tunnel that severely affected his ability to play i think in early 2013. it was so bad that he couldn't hold his bow and would drop it mid-solo. he got medical treatment and improved greatly about a month later and has been solid since. but its still something that he's going to have to deal with while he plays, and its something that only gets worse with time, not better.

but that is the only serious medical issue that is affecting anyone in the band. dave also has carpel tunnel, which is why you'll see him shaking his hand between songs, but it hasn't really affected his playing. everyone else is healthy as far as we know. carter is getting old, but even that hasn't been affecting his playing, so no reason to think it will make him stop any time soon.

I've read some dumb Zilla quotes over the years, but this takes it. Just as long as Phish plays until the end of time, right?

Without realizing it, I believe you've answered your own question.

They've toured through infancy and childhood. Dave is a thoughtful guy and it seems family means the world to him. The realization of how much of the little things in their lives he's missed and how few days he really has left to be with them until they are out in the world as adults and for all intents and purposes gone forever may be enough...

I think it is very unfair to say the guys will be done in 5 years. If they stay healthy of course mostly then why not? If they have the passion it is silly to stop because they have been doing this for so long. Now that does not mean they have to keep up a grueling schedule either. It all just comes with how they continue to evolve as a band and unit and people. Retire is a word I would not associate with these guys. Not permanently.

He was 100% wrong. They booked a tour, sold tickets, and had every intention of playing the tour. They played a couple of shows in February. They can't help the government shut down the country and banned large gatherings during the time frame the tour was scheduled for.
