I think this is where politics becomes a gray area. I'm not saying the USA shouldn't make its case against NK. I'm saying that, most people think that the entire point of the UN is to help resolve conflicts before they escalate to military action. If the US doesn't allow that to even have a chance to work, then what point is the UN?

I look at it almost like a trial. Both sides should be able to make their case and then turn it over to an impartial jury, so to speak. That doesn't mean that whatever the UN says will actually happen but isn't that supposed to be the first step?

Socialism, as any other system of government, functions only based on the amount of corruption inherent within those representing the people who voted for it, or not in many cases. No one system is perfect, but there certainly is a steep decline among the choices because of the folks attracted to them and those too afraid to thwart their behaviours.

There are so many people in the city happy for the NHL preseason because the Bears are so terrible.

Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand. There are plenty of examples where socialism works. There are plenty of examples where it's a fucking disaster, too, as you point out.

To repeat myself a little, I don't think America should tip wholesale toward socialism. I don't even know how that would work, but I imagine it looking something like China does right now, where it's socialist but the economy is pretty damned capitalist.

However, I think if we identify programs or agencies that could be of the most benefit to Americans run in a "socialist" way, let's do it. Health care is a great example.

The military is a socialist culture. (Which is irony because they defend democracy). Highways, roads, public libraries, postal service. We rely on spooky, scary socialism for lots of stuff.

Just give in to socialism, Jaime. Let the hate flow through you.

I feel like appropriating tax dollars for roads, libraries, and postal services doesn't really fall under the category of socialism.

I think most people that make money believe that they have some fiscal responsibility for things like roads, cops, fire departments, etc...

I'm not so hung up on the name, which is kinda my point about "what it's called" being meaningless.

Sure looks like this Graham-Cassidy bill will get to 50. What a shitshow. It's worse than the original repeal bills, followed an equally rushed and CBO-free path to get here, and we are one sweet deal for Arizona away from a yes vote by McCain. How 49 Senators could back this is beyond me, even from a process perspective alone.

The summary of the bill I read was an absolute nightmare. If the American public actually understood what they were proposing instead of just relying on buzzwords "repeal that evil Obamacare!" There would be little to no support nationwide.

It is 95% in antithesis to the average American and their health needs. The general public does NOT know better.

Will be a rude awakening when people can't afford coverage anymore because of preexisting conditions. What's your level of optimism/pessimism on this bill being passed? I've got a bad feeling about it.

I think my point was much more simple/straightforward than how you took it...so I probably didn't elaborate enough with my initial post.

Totally agree we should give the UN a chance to work. My only point is that we, the USA, are part of the UN. Trump said "let's see how THEY do" when referring to the UN...as if the UN is some body that doesn't include the US. If the UN fails to keep NK in check, it is a failure of all the countries in the UN...including us.

Trump has a history of pointing the finger and not wanting to actually own anything or take responsibility for anything. If anything goes wrong, it can't possible be his fault...using the term "they" is just another example of him trying to skirt responsibility.
