This is why leadership matters! People take cues from our leaders! But when your ultimate test is "not a lib" then you get literally crazy people running and winning. And those people are seen as credible. And the cycle continues.

Weird to read the first call, which occurred before Biden's campaign was launched, as some sort of evidence for innocence.

I don't see how this strategy does anything to (1) get independents to vote for you or (2) get non voters off the sidelines and vote for you.

The base is the base. They are voting no matter what.

The thing to me that is the most batshit crazy is that people can believe career diplomats have some sort of weird vendetta or agenda against Trump.

    Just wild stuff, really.

While there was a lot of maneuvering Thursday and it appeared the Democrats had lined up enough votes, Republican David McSweeney filed a series of requests for information about how the proposed tax changes would impact the statewide budget for construction projects like schools and hospitals and that appears to have scuttled hopes of passing the bill.

The mayor had expressed optimism when she went to Springfield this week that she could get help reducing the 72-percent tax rate for a Chicago casino, which a consultant said was too onerous to attract investors. But with Speaker Mike Madigan recusing himself from working on this legislation, lawmakers were unable to get it done for Lightfoot

What was wrong with her bill? She wanted to reduce taxes for the casino to come in. Who ended up killing the bill?

Mike Madigan is a lifetime democrat.

He's pretty much responsible for tax laws in the state. His "other" job is getting paid by large corporations to manuever out of paying those taxes so a larger burden falls on the middle class and his "other" job pays him very, very well.

Madigan, who declined to be interviewed for this report, has in the past denied any conflict of interest.

Unfortunately for Lightfoot, she doesn't understand that Chicago doesn't comprise the entire state of IL. But, she checks the boxes that liberals love so here we are.

Yes, I know that. I lived in Illinois for 3 years. I know who Mike madigan is.

Mcsweeney killed it, read the previous paragraph. Madigan recused himself and I'm going to guess, from my knowledge of Illinois politics, that he's very good at whipping members so she lost that arrow for this bill and that's why it's included in this article. Regardless, the first paragraph says she had the votes until mcsweeney, a republican, ran the clock out.

And what is the history where a 4th grader could see this coming? And why is this an outlandish bill? Do you want casinos in Chicago? Is the 72% tax rate too high?

You cant just dunk on me with a both sides. Bring the receipts.

And just so we are clear, we are both sidesing Nunes opening statement to a Chicago mayor's bill request to lower taxes casinos pay in the hopes that casinos come to chicago. That's where the democrat party is getting dunked on right now.

    https://chicago.suntimes.com/city-ha...o-transfer-tax

This article is from a month ago. A month ago the governor had no idea of Lightfoot's plans. To me, that screams terrible leadership.

    Quote:
Gov. J.B. Pritzker was “blindsided” by the mayor’s plan and read about it first in the Chicago Sun-Times.
    Quote:
A legislator who has taken the lead on gambling issues has also argued that re-opening the casino bill for Chicago would “open the floodgates for everybody who has problems with” the legislation causing “unnecessary drama.”
Again, everyone knew this wouldn't pass. So, what's the alternative? Cuts in spending? Stand up to CTU? Nah, we'll just add onto property taxes. To me this screams terrible leadership.

    Quote:
Mayor Lori Lightfoot acknowledged Friday she will have no choice but to raise property taxes — which were more than doubled by former Mayor Rahm Emanuel — if her agenda falls flat in the General Assembly’s fall veto session.
So, I agree with you, Cazz. Leadership matters!

A longtime career employee at the White House Office of Management and Budget is expected to break ranks and testify Saturday in the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, potentially filling in important details on the holdup of military aid to Ukraine.

Mark Sandy would be the first OMB employee to testify in the inquiry, after OMB acting director Russell T. Vought and two other political appointees at the agency defied congressional subpoenas to appear. The White House has called the impeachment inquiry unconstitutional and ordered administration officials not to participate.

Unlike these other OMB officials, Sandy is a career employee, not one appointed by the president. He has worked at the agency off and on for over a decade, under presidents of both parties, climbing the ranks to his current role as deputy associate director for national security programs.

This article is from a month ago. A month ago the governor had no idea of Lightfoot's plans. To me, that screams terrible leadership.

Again, everyone knew this wouldn't pass. So, what's the alternative? Cuts in spending? Stand up to CTU? Nah, we'll just add onto property taxes. To me this screams terrible leadership.

So, I agree with you, Cazz. Leadership matters!
What's your problem with the bill that had the votes to pass but was stalled by a republican? A bill that would have kept your property taxes down, had it passed.

Oh, not at all. My issue is that my property taxes are going up again.

I just point that out to reinforce Cazzie's point that we can't keep electing people just because of #insertdumbreasonhere# as opposed to people that are, at least, somewhat qualified.

You can't throw something together where you're asking money from the state and think that it's just going to fly though in two days. That's a lack of planning. A lack of planning is a direct result of shitty leadership.

And, for blaming a republican, that's just you being a partisan hack. His responsibility isn't to the city of Chicago, so he's obligated to serve his constituents. This is a major issue that people in Chicago don't understand and apparently you don't get it either.

Republican David McSweeney filed a series of requests for information about how the proposed tax changes would impact the statewide budget for construction projects like schools and hospitals
What was Lightfoot's backup plan? Where are the list of cuts? Where was standing up to CTU? Nowhere. That's the point. So what's the alternative? Apparently, the only alternative is to raise property taxes. And, as I previously posted, if anyone thinks big corporations or "rich" people are going to pick up the tab, then I'd refer them back to the link on Mike Madigan.

Very odd hill to die on, Cazz.
