yeah until i started researching to start my collection i didn't realize they make vinyl versions of most new albums (allbeit usually a limited number). but i was very excited when i found out cause this means my collection doesn't all have to be about used classic albums. i might purchase a second copy of In Rainbows and keep it sealed.

i also really want the Yankee Foxtrot Hotel lp.

I got a sony one, i forget what model, and it was like a hundred bucks or so. It gets the job done. You may be able to find cheaper, I sort of just went to a store a grabbed one, didn't do much research.

I've been collecting vinyls for a couple years now. First used this old dinky turntable but found my dads old sony and restored it to perfection. Vinyl is so much more satisfying to listen to...it's just the feeling you get when you flip your fingers through your collection trying to find something, slip it out of the cover, and set the needle to the beginning and listen to it all the way through. To this day I start out almost every morning with Deja Vu (CSN+Y) while I'm getting ready.

Anywho, I started out collecting old cheap records that either my dad had from before or I bought at the local record store, but realized quickly it's worth it to spend a few extra bucks on sealed, mint albums. I've got right around 120 now.

That is the average price I have paid for most of the lp's in my collection. 95% of them I had to special order through HMV in canada, and yes they were imports for the most part. I'm not sure if the fact they are imports has anything to do with the price though.

A few of my favorites in my collection....

    Dire Straits - Dire Straits
Cream - Disraeli Gears (Stereo original, NM!)
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (original release)
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited (original US release, stereo)
    Stan Getz - Captain Marvel
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil (early Blue Note reissue)
Neil Young - Harvest, On the Beach, After the Goldrush
Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Deja Vu (NM)
Richard Thompson - Hand of Kindness
Brian Eno & Harold Budd - Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror

Have purchased a few of these off ebay, have gotten quite a few nice deals for $10 or less, haven't bought any vinyl in a while though.

Really, most of the sellers I see on there have extremely high, 97%+ positive feedback, so there isn't much risk, especially if you aren't spending more than $20 on a record. A couple of times I've gotten records that have been slightly warped and weren't advertised as such, but it's hard to see that just by looking sometime, and they all still play very well. Really, most of the disks I've bought off ebay have been of pretty high quality, especially the vinyl. Most of it sounding relatively unplayed. The Stan Getz record I bought looks a bit old on the outside, but the vinyl plays like new, for example. It's really the luck of the draw since you can't see it, but if you are a discerning buyer, you can find some stuff. Pricing is generally a bit more than you might find in some record stores, but my local stores charge a bit more than I find reasonable, and I can find just about anything on the 'bay.

Something else to point out, many of the new albums that you can pick up on vinyl also come with a mp3 download. I have purchased almost all my new stuff on vinyl, then down load the mp3 direct from the lable and put it on my ipod. Very cool. Others just put in a copy of the issue on cd. the vinyl issue Wilco's Sky Blue Sky and the Black Keys Attack and Release both came with a cd copy packaged in.

I don't have any disposable income, but someday I'll get my dad's pretty nice table and all of his records. There's a lot of good stuff in there, from most of the Zeppelin records to Toys In The Attic.

I would like to grab some more recent vinyls, like In Rainbows and the new Death Cab record when it comes out

For recent albums (depending on the genre of music your looking for) I've noticed that if you buy directly from the band or their record label it is a lot cheaper than buying from an online store/indie record store/ebay

May 13. Not sure if that will also be the date for a vinyl release.

Bought a brand new copy of Give Up by The Postal Service on Amazon.com for $15. Very exciting.

Yea, most of the newer stuff I only buy on vinyl cause you get either a CD with it, or an mp3 download code...the best of both worlds

I assume, but I don't know for sure. I know that Plans was issued on vinyl, so I think this would be too.

I am starting to become a vinyl fanatic, since I now have a great record player. I only have maybe 20 records so far, but I'm always hitting up my used-record store for sweet deals. I might just start buying stuff just to have it.

My mom told me about Boz Scaggs, and I bought a few of their records....holy crap, I'm addicted! great "chillin' on the porch with some friends and beer" music.

hell yeah! The three that I bought were 99 cents each, and I love them. So funky. For some reason, based on the cover art of the albums, I thought they'd be all jazzy and straight out of the 50s.

Orrrrrr they're like Earth, Wind and Fire. Love it.

i was at my parents' house last night and listened to it on their turntable. i didn't think i could love that album any more than i already did but something about listening to it on vinyl made it so much more intimate and enjoyable. it was like having sex without a condum.

i've built up a huge vinyl collection over the last 10+ years, over 2000+ releases. However probably not a single artist that anyone on this forum would recognize.
