Re: Jeopardy!

He got the daily double on the first clue of the game so he could only bet up to $1000 and he got it wrong. His opponent got one of the daily doubles right in double and bet big to at least keep it in the ball park.

    Re: Jeopardy!

Yeah his opponent in double jeopardy nailed the Daily Double, he had $13,000 and James had 28317 at the time and he bet $12,000 to get to $25,000, which is when Alex remarked "we've got a game on our hands!"

    Pretty exciting.

    CNN being CNN - https://www.cnn.com/entertainment/li...uer/index.html

Alex Trebek noted that twice in James Holzhauer's 17-game winning streak, he had a winning total of $9,812.
There's a reason for the oddly specific figure.
"On Sept. 8 2012, I got married," Holzhauer explained.

    Umm, no, it was $90,812

I think he got 1/3 DDs

The big thing was that both contestants played a lot like him, and they beat him on buzzer a lot. They bounced around the board and called for higher $ answers first.

Old guy was like in his 60's, took his shot in final by betting over $25k and got it.

That's def going to be the way to beat him, be aggressive

The thing is, I’ve never understood why start with the small dollars first. If you have the opportunity to double your total, you want it late and you want as high of a total as possible when you get it. Ideally, the DD’s would be the final clues picked.

I really thought he was going to lose in final, I didn't see him write down anything at all at first and he had a really squirmy look. but I should have known to not doubt the GOAT.

He always does that during final jeopardy. Also if you notice before answering a daily double he looks down a couple of time. Must be a focusing mechanism for him of some sorts

He's smarter than me but wouldn't game strategy, for a player this good, be that you'd want to knock out the first 2 rows to build up a base then go hunt for the DD? Hunting for the DD right away seems like he is lowering his potential earnings.

Optimal strategy is to go after the high dollar targets when he is in control of the board - if you notice this is the strategy every player in the Tournament of Champions uses

No, he can knock out the bottom two rows and potentially have 10800 after 12 questions before finding the Daily Double. If it ran through the top two rows he'd only have 3600. The strategy is so obvious and simple, but I don't recall anyone ever really doing it before this.

Others have hunted before. Hunting is smart. I'm just asking if hunting right away in single jeopardy is smart since he can get stuck with the DD in answer 1 or 2 thus neutering the DD.

I really wouldn't question James' game theory & optimal strategy decisions - this is a guy who had a buzzer installed and practiced for months on the buzzer

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see if that gentleman yesterday is the closest someone gets in a while. He made all the right decisions, was quick on the buzzer & made all the right bets & still lost

I wasn't referring to hunting. I was referring to starting with the big $ amounts to build up a pot.

Yeah that's amazing news, although many times tumors can initially shrink and then return I think it's quite telling (and great) that all his doctors are shocked.

    Pulling for you Alex!!

Also that recent episode with "Nate" coming super close to James was the most exciting ep of Jeopardy! I've ever seen! Damn, he was so on the buzzer timing in Jeopardy round, then fell off a little in Double Jeopardy. James nailed that last Daily Double, shoot the works brother!! Balls of steel.

Question, were they regular Jeopardy episodes or was there some tournament / special edition being taped similar to the Teacher's Tournament?

Since James has become a national story, I feel like if he had lost it would have been leaked by a major media outlet by now. When Ken Jennings lost, in a pre-social media world, his defeat was reported literally the afternoon it happened by a litany of sites and news sources. I also don't think Jeopardy would have brought in all of its most notable past champions during the final taping of the season and had them film this promo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI27ZRVvKcs unless James was going to challenge all of the show's longstanding records. There are also sport books in Vegas that are releasing odds, and taking bets, on James's streak and their data suggest they think James will eclipse Ken's earnings and wins record. Vegas has fucking deep connections in the entertainment industry; if James had lost I think they would know about it and use this knowledge to their advantage. The official Jeopardy website is also basically now exclusively dedicated to tracking James's stats; that seems like an odd decision unless you knew this guy was going to be the focal point of your entire season.

If/when James wins another game, he should pass the $2.5M mark. He's now just $58,000 from surpassing Ken Jennings' winnings during his 74-game streak, so there's a good chance James breaks that record on Monday as well.

Vegas takes bets on shows that are pretaped and have a studio audience? No way they would have the inside information.
