It past experience it’s just a pain in the ass. We’ve only been here a month, don’t have a designated fire pit or space for such a burn. Also although everyone is nice I hate to smoke out the neighborhood unless it’s with some pork!

We do have some space at the back of the property I could drop it, clean it up, and deal with it later but hate doing that. I’m sure there isn’t a great option besides burning it.

Alright guys...need some help. Every year at about this time I start seeing lawn rust popping up in just my backyard. Anything you can recommend to combat it? It looks so gross.

    Re: Lawncare/Landscape Thread

Finally decided we want to remove the massive 1+ story holly at the corner of our house. When we removed the others a year ago, my landscaper said it would be more of a tree removal job. So he just trimmed it up and we decided to keep it for now and see. But it just gets out of hand too fast. Now I'm having a hard time getting anyone to quote me on removing it, other than 1 guy. I think the landscaper-type people think it's too big a job for them, and the tree removal people think it's too small a job for them. The one guy I have something from says $500-700 including full stump grinding, which I think i want so it never returns.

Ohh man, i can clearly remember when i was a kid, any house in the neighborhood who had kids had that patch of dead grass on the side of their yards from where the slip and slide was. At my parents house, it eventually turned into the pitcher-catcher part of a baseball field.

    Re: Lawncare/Landscape Thread

My lawnmower crapped out so bought a new one this past weekend, only thing was it wasn't in the store so had to order it (and it was a tax free weekend so took advantage of it). When I saw the lawnmower on the computer in Home Depot, it said "self-propelled." I just got it delivered today and nowhere on the box does it say "self-propelled" but it does say "Rear-wheel drive."

Is that the same thing with lawnmowers?

    Thanks.

But a push mower wouldn't say "rear-wheel drive" so I dunno

I was in front of my house on Saturday spraying a yellow jackets' nest when a car slowed down in front of my house. I heard a voice yell "Yo Brendan! Always the nicest lawn, Always!" It was someone I used to work with at a golf course who I haven't spoken to in over 10 years. I guess my hard work on the lawn has paid off.

I ordered GCI TTTF for overseeding. I'm in NJ. I've read a lot of good things about this seed, hopefully i have good luck with it.

Apparently armyworms have made their way into our neighborhood. A few neighbors have completely lost their lawns already.

Going to have to check the yard out tomorrow - we just got home from a weekend away, it’s been 95+ and dry all weekend so I have some heat stress too

Everyone talking about this suddenly this past week, here too! Crazy how fast they destroy.

I dunno about army worms but today we had a mobile petting zoo set up in our front yard for an hour for our daughters' joint birthday the goats ate the grass for a while but overall it didn't look much worse for the wear once they were gone.

I've killed 3 voles in the last few weeks. I have no idea how many there are. Pretty annoying with the trails of dead grass they leave in the lawn.

Page 3 this time of year???? What are everyone's fall reno plans and when are you doing them or have you done them already? I am not really doing anything to the back yard. No real point now that we have Kylo. I have the front and the small area in between my driveway and my neighbor's property cut to the necessary length. I plan on doing all or some of the dethatching today and aerate and overseed on Thursday since I have the day off for Yom Kippur. I may have to cut again on Wednesday night.

Already did my aerating/over seeding last weekend. Started seeing germination on Thursday after throwing seed down on Saturday. Love this time of year and seeing all the hard work pay off in a few weeks will be glorious as always

Didn't get as much dethatching done as I had hoped this weekend. The side is done and it was a real chore since it had not been dethatched in the 20 years I have lived here. I have the front to do but that shouldn't be too bad since it was done last year.

Temps in South Jersey are still pretty warm (90's today) for the next 10 days. I think my fall reno will take place late Sept, early October this year. Last year i did it mid September. I'm doing dethatch, aerate, overseed.

Aerating will be done sometime this month whenever the company I hired to do it gets to it. I need to seed a few patches that died due to the drought that happened this year. I also need to seed some of the vole tracks. I dethatch every other year and I did it last year, so I'll do that next year. Then of course the final fertilizing of the season will be done in mid-October.
