Re: COVID-19/new coronavirus thread

My old role was basically my own business. It was me and my foreman doing everything and WFH was fine.

The new job is very much a team job. I don’t think WFH is sustainable there.

Hell yeah to WFH. At this point, I don't want to go back in. At least not with my current company/setup.

I have to go into the office tomorrow & wednesday for meetings, though. First time going in since March 2020.

I did some W’ingFH prior to COVID for years but not to this extent (it being the rule as opposed to the exception). I was doing it a couple times a week and didn’t particularly care for it due to the lack of routine. Now that it’s full time it’s incredible.

Waiting to get into Urgent Care for a rapid test so I can hopefully go back to the office tomorrow. Way more people here trying to get a test than a week ago.

I was told we would be work from home from "here on out" on my show. I have to go into the office occasionally but I don't mind it. It's nice to be in the office and no one is really there yet. Maybe 5-10 people. The production company I work for does a bunch of shows so I'm not sure what other shows WFH plan is. I think more people will start popping up to the office eventually.

Covid free! Taking all of my office shit back to the office tomorrow. So happy to be out of my apartment for work. Work 5 days a week at the office otherwise.

Starting my one day a week back in the office today. Honestly feels pretty good to get out of my house. A nice balance of the two going forward would be nice.

I could go in my one a day but I don’t want to and we don’t have to yet

And this month they are doing construction on our floors so nobody will be in at all until at least October

Actually, while vaccination rates for kids under 12 are identical (0%) across states,

    Infection numbers are not

In Massachusetts, about 250 kids under 10 years of age infected last week

In Florida, it was about 9,000

In Louisiana, it was about 1600

    Adjusted for population

Florida had 12X as many kids infected as Massachusetts last week

    And Louisiana? About 10X

    So what's going on?

None of these kids are vaccinated!

So why are infection rates so much lower in MA?

Right, because kids are protected by adults

    3/5

I’ve averaged 1-2 days in the office per week since our return to work started the first week of July.

I’d do zero if I could. I hate my commute.

We don’t have a hard and fast rule on how many days we have to be here. I’ve been coming in only for the in-person budgeting meetings I have to have with department heads.

We have a bunch of Covid in the factory, so I stay out of there as much as I can.

Yeah I like going into Boston and hitting the north end for lunch, 2pm coffee run

I don’t like the 430am wake up 20 min drive for a 25 min train ride.

Stemming from a foiled plot from 2006 that involved liquid explosives.

Unless you are an explosives expert, one cant really dispute the reasoning behind it.

If you dont want to buy water there, take an empty water bottle and fill them at the filtered water filling stations.

To think its just to get people to buy drinks past the gate is silly Lee. Same with your mask conspiracy theory- its silly.

Same. Though my commute into DC hasnt been bad yet. DC is still pretty much a ghost town. Ive been in 1-2 days per week since March 2020.

My dept is 5 of us in DC- we are the only ones in entire office that have been in office since March 2020- the other two floors with hundreds of people are empty. We are continuing this through 2021.

Yeah, this one is pretty simple. I bring an empty Nalgene and just fill it.

Yep, my commute to Tysons was 45 minutes today. Pre-pandemic it was an hour and a fifteen.

Lemme get you guys opinion on this situation...

This weekend my wife is going out of town, leaving me home alone. I bought a ticket more than a month ago to see Blackberry Smoke at an indoor venue on Friday night. They're not my favorite band, but I like them well enough to kill a Friday night to avoid being home alone.

But now, with this massive spike that's happening, I'm unsure if I should go. I don't see Blackberry Smoke's crowd as a high vax audience. Not to mention, Memphis is only sitting around 44% vaxxed I think. It's an assigned seat event and I know my chair is surrounded by purchased seats.

I've been masking up everywhere I go now, including the run of Phish shows I did over the weekend and tonight/tomorrow. I'm double vaxxed (Novavax + Pfizer) and plan to wear a mask. Of course I don't want to get sick but I do have some shows about 10-15 days away that I really dont' want to miss so that's my main concern in catching COVID (outside of just feeling unwell).

What are your thoughts? Should I be good? Or should I try to dump the ticket?

Wear a mask and have fun.
    You’re vaccinated.

I’m going to Guns N’ Roses tonight and Green Day Thursday at Fenway, granted it’s outside but I’ll wear a mask underneath Fenway and in the bathrooms

Agreed. If vaccinated, go for it. This all could go on for years. For those of us that did our part, why not enjoy?

    You’re vaccinated.

I’m going to Guns N’ Roses tonight and Green Day Thursday at Fenway, granted it’s outside but I’ll wear a mask underneath Fenway and in the bathrooms
Just asked my pediatrician if we should take our trip to Disney World in September.

    His response:

"Good question and no absolute right or wrong answer. Florida does seem to be in a tougher spot each day we move forward.
I think the one thing you have going for you is the fact is it is still 6 weeks ago. I remain hopeful things may be improving by then.
But if things then are like they are now, I would certainly understand the decision to hold off on the trip."

Ugh. Yeah I was reading one of the covid response team guys saying he thinks this will be like the delta outbreak in UK and India and cases will drop by the end of the month

    Fingers crossed.

If we have to cancel two years in a row we will probably just do an all out Disneyland trip in 2022 and a small WDW one for the 50th stuff
