We’ll see how high they get, but compared to the Delta wave, it still doesn’t seem to be nearly as deadly. The daily case average in this wave peaked five times higher than the Delta wave, but the deaths have barely surpassed the ones from that wave. Still some time to go, but I think we’re going to make it out of this relatively well.

I said relatively well, not extremely well. And my stance on Covid deaths remains the same. The vast majority of these people made their choices, and that’s the way the cookie crumbles. But it’s showing that this wave and variant are far less deadly than any previous one, which is a good sign.

And I’m not taking issue with what you said. Just that it’s not cool how so many deaths is considered doing relatively well.

If we were averaging 800K new cases a day, and only 3K deaths per day come out of that, that’s less than half of one percent that died. Considering about 2-3% of Covid cases were resulting in death prior to that, it means the vaccines are working and the virus is getting weaker. It’s cause for optimism.

Definitely good that the death rate is lower with Omicron, but if the number of cases is higher and the number of deaths is higher, I would say that would be not so good.
