Re: DC Cinematic/TV Marthaverse Fandom (DCUc)

Loved it! Even if my theater messed with the projector 20 minutes into the movie and caused a huge unnecessary delay.

In terms of my DCEU rankings:

1. The Suicide Squad
2. Man of Steel
3. Zack Snyder's Justice League
4. Birds of Prey
5. Batman v Superman
6. Wonder Woman
7. Shazam!
8. Wonder Woman 1984
9. Suicide Squad
10. Aquaman
11. Justice League

The only upcoming movies that may top this for me are Flash or Batman, but I expect this to be my #1 for a while.

I can get how people who decried JL went all in on ZSJL and loved it. It's not a very good movie. It's just not. Regardless of the extra parts, it's just a great story.

Silas Stone was a great character. His parts + the Whedon cut would be the best bet for the movie. everything else is meh.

I have a feeling this won't last and Aquaman will creep up above The Suicide Squad. It twas a lot of fun, but the reality is that it wasn't a very well produced movie and had a clunky flow. All the Ratcatcher I scenes were there only b/c Taika played him. disrupted the flow.

but it was fun, for sure. would watch again

I agree with the bolded. It was good. Not bad. Not great.

It felt like it was trying too hard to be gory and profane. It seemed like something an angsty teenager would really enjoy.

That said, Margot continues to be an incredible Harley. She nails the character.

It reminded me of the Kick Ass series in a bunch of ways. I liked that series when I was a teenager, but it hasn't aged well. This movie made me think "wow, an edgy teen would probably think this is amazing" and I think that's just who James Gunn is as a person

If Man of Steel didn’t make Superman kill then it be my number one. The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman are the only two DCEU movies that stayed true to the character IMO. Everything else has varying flaws that I can’t get over.

DC’s roster is full of great characters but they haven’t been executed well on screen. This is far and away the best take on Harley and I’m a fan of King Shark. So give me fun action with DC characters done well as the best movie. What’s your top 3 out of curiosity?

8 years later and people are still worried about Superman killing Zod when Zod literally said he was going to kill everyone on the planet, smh

    My top 3 are

    ZSJL
    BvS
    MoS

Snyder takes the characters seriously and frames them as the flawed modern god figures they are. He tells serious stories which is much more in line with my overall theatrical experience preference.

I also just never understood how “having fun!” became such an important characteristic of a comic book movie. It’s a cop out, IMO. I have a lot of fun watching Batman kick ass in the BvS warehouse scene and watching a true portrayal of Superman’s powers in MoS.

What are your thoughts on the MCU?

I don’t know that I remember a lot of the lower ones well enough to rank them accurately but my top 4 is definitely Wonder Woman as #1 and then the 3 Snyder films in a fairly interchangeable order. Original Suicide Squad will always be the worst.

I have trouble ranking the Snyder trilogy because I thought both MOS and ZSJL were pretty solid, whereas BvS I had some major issues with it (hi Lex!) but also the peaks of that movie I thought easily surpassed the other two films, just some really amazing moments.

The new Suicide Squad is doing badly in the theaters, most likely because of HBO showing it at home. That's legit a shame.

Christopher Nolan took Batman seriously. It still felt like Batman. If you were fine with how Snyder depicted the big 3 that’s cool, but it always felt off to me.

I’m confused as to what’s different between our takes on fun. I don’t think it’s an important characteristic. This movie just happened to be fun with a lot of action. Examples: Peace Maker and Bloodsport in the camp. Pretty much everyone King Shark killed.

I don’t need to do a whole Marvel vs DC thing. I think the MCU is really good and has done a great job of portraying their characters. I don’t care if DC wants to be popcorn flicks or Snyder’s Watchmen. Just make good movies.

This. There was scarcely any levity in the Nolan trilogy, but they were all really solid movies.

The Batman tonight @ 7 for the special IMAX fan screening!

Reviews have all been amazing thus far. Haven't been this excited to see a movie in theaters since BvS came out!
