Looking to get a good pair of headphones

I have a great surround sound system at home but up at school, I have nothing but a shitty set of speakers. So im looking to invest in some good over ear, preferably noise cancelling headphones. Any advice or recommendations? My budget is about 100 dollars. I'm not really looking to spend big money on a set of bose.

I always wondered, for the same price, or close to it, you could get a pair of bose can't you? Can Dr. Dres headphones even compete in sound quality?

For half the price you can get a much fuller sound. I wouldn't buy anything else for over the ear headphones.

You can get others grados for cheaper, but I find these to be amazing for the price

I spent just about $100 on my Audio Technica ATH-M50s and I have loved them for the past 3 years. Very good isolation (no sound getting in or out) and I really like the range you get on them, especially for the price.

2 thumbs down to anybody saying Dre Beats who isn't kidding.

I've tried Dre Beats at a couple of different stores, and I really don't understand why they're so pricy, I mean I know they have Dre's endorsement, but it's outrageous how much they are for the quality you get.

It's seroiusly a scam. A buddy of mine bought them and compared them to my 100 dollar Audio Technicas, which are a nice but not super nice pair of cans, and it wasn't even close. Yeah the bass is heavier, but thats more annoying than anything to me and blasting hip hop in the AT's is still pretty bumpin.

That's great news, BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment.

Sennheiser, AKG, Grado, Audio Technica, Denon, Beyer Dynamic, Ultrasone, all better than Beats or Bose.

Personally I'd skip the noise cancelling and go with a good pair of circumaural cans, because you keep noise out and keep YOUR noise from escaping. I have a pair of AKG 271 MKII's and they're terrific at doing both.

If you don't care about your noise escaping, look into some supra-aural or open circumaural.

Some tips about noise reduction sets from Good Cans:

    Quote:
Some points about ANR headphones to remember:
-- Random noises are "NOT" reduced! Talking, banging, babies crying, etc..... not reduced by the ANR circuitry.
-- Sometimes erroneously called "Noise Cancellation" headphones.... they reduce one offending noise, not cancel!
-- $300 ANR headphones, even from self boastful famous audio manufacturers, do not sound as good to an audiophile's ears as does a $79 Grado SR60i. Besides being closed which affects sound quality, the ANR circuitry introduces some hiss.
-- If you travel a lot, by all means, spend some money on some good ANR headphones. But if you only travel occasionally, opt for the less expensive ones for traveling and buy some regular headphones for all other uses.
In the bolded my guess is they're referring to BOSE.

Whatever you do, I think if you avoid Beats and Bose you'll be at a great starting point.

For closed the Sennheiser HD280 PRO ($95.84) or Ultrasone HDI-450 ($83.85) (pricing from Amazon) would both be better choices than the BOSE or Beats. For a headphone that is not "closed" check out the Audio Technica AD-700 ($93.77) or Grado SR-80i ($99) in your budget range.

All of this. I have had my Grado SR-80's for 6 years or so and they are lightweight and sound beautiful. However, I haven't listened to them nearly as much since I got my AKG K701's.

I got a pair of Bose on ear headphones on ebay for like $80. They aren't noise canceling but they do pretty much cancel out outside noise anyways... And the bass was a little high so I just tuned my settings on my iPhone and they sound amazing

Stay away from the beats. They are made by monster, enough said.

My personal choice of headphones is the Sony 7506. They are in your price range and really really flat. I bought them for work but use them at home as well.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser's today. Sound pretty good so far, only 2 negatives so far, the wire is very thin and the bass isnt very strong. Other then that they sound excellent.

Edit: Studio version of The Stone...enough said

I have these, and I love them:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A338-1060

Tiger Direct runs a sale on them for $49.99 pretty frequently, so keep your eye out for that discount code and you can get them at 1/2 that price.
