Re: Looking to get a good pair of headphones

Either you haven't tried many nice headphones or you don't care about anything but bass. And no, Bose and "expensive" Skullcandy doesn't qualify as nice. The build quality is terrible and aside from the bass, there is nothing special about the sound quality. They are good looking and pretty comfortable, but you could find much better for $200. Also, if you've had them for 4 months they should literally be better than new. It's called burn-in.

Look up the term premium pricing.

I like a lot of bass in my music, but the beats are an inferior product for that price. Monster Cables is a shitty company and nothing that I owned of theirs lasted particularly long. Won't buy beats for that reason. There's literally 15$ worth of material on these things, and they are known to snap like a popsicle stick. Monster doesn't honor any type of warranty. Woof.

I ordered Sennheiser HD 202 headphones off amazon for $17 they are a $60 headphone and are made by one of the best producers of audio equipment. They are on amazon now for $18. (68% off)

The Klipsch s4. They are, from all reports (first-hand and reviews) worth the cost of headphones far, far more expensive (they are $80). You can also look at the Shure 310s (which are what I own)...they'll run you about an extra $100, but they are worth it.

So can a man go get these at a Best Buy or something, or does one have to go to some underground website and order them?

I have Sennheisher HD555s for wearing at home and for $35 more they sound like they are $200 better than the Bose. For wearing out I have the 428s which pretty much sound exactly the same as the Bose, if not better, and they are only $100.

My brother has owned these for probably 5 or 6 years now, as long as I've had my Grado SR80's. They've held up very well and are damn comfortable, pretty amazing sound quality for the price offered now. Probably no real need for an amp, either. I imagine the FiiO E7 would do well with them, but it might not make that much of a difference.

I've got a pair of Shure headphones: SRH440. They are quite beautiful and I love them. I got them for my home studio. I didn't want to go too crazy on getting super expensive headphones and they've worked just fine for me.

Another good choice for someone looking in the $150 range would be the Audio-Technica ATH M50. $160 on amazon, and most don't really think you need a headphone amp to enjoy them. http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica.../dp/B000ULAP4U

But you really should research any pair of cans before buying them. You don't want to be disappointed.

Someone else suggested these. I'm hoping I can find these at Best Buy or something.

    Wtf is a headphone amp?

Oh boy now I have another decision to make.

How good do these sound? Would you say they sound amazing, or are they just fantastic for the price? Because if the 150 dollar ones aren't that much better than these...

A headphone amp is just an amplifier to provide better performance. At your price point and experience with higher end headphones, you probably won't need one.

Best Buy has shit for selection because they make their money on Bose and Beats. I understand that this time of year, you may have a gift card or something, but I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I've never seen the ATH M50's in store and don't see them online either.

I also have the Sennheiser HD202's (I may have a problem) and they are a great deal for the price, but they just made me want to upgrade again after a short time. They are much more cheaply built (obviously) and the ear pads got warm/uncomfortable quite quickly.

Alright, I'll go browse Best Buy to see if they have any Sennheisers, but I think I might just end up blindly buying something on Amazon that's already been suggested here.

Make sure you look at the packaging closely if you aren't able to try them out. I don't know what your plan is for these headphones, but you don't want to buy some open back headphones if you're planning on using them in public/around others at home. Those around you will be able to hear sound leaking if they are anywhere in the same room as you.

And just an FYI, the Sennheisers that my local BB had the other day (HD 448) are about $30 cheaper on Amazon right now vs. Best Buy.

I posted about these half a page ip, they are my out on the move pair. Better than the Bose equivalent for $30 less.

EDIT: they are not the MOST comfy can, but they aren't annoying or anything. Just kind of hard compared to higher model Senns.

    ^ Thanks post above.

But, I assume the sound quality is higher with these than the other ones I posted? I might just order these since they're half off.
