This one was already mentioned above and is another great solo:
Two Step - 4.21.2002 - Le Centre Molson, Montreal, QC, CAN
https://youtu.be/EENCET0cNkY
Jeff starts after Victor Wooten, around 12:30, becomes insane at 13:40 and the crowd gets ecstatic at 14:30. Wow!
I love also at 15:20 when is having fun with Roi. Watching those 2 guys together is always so strange and great. They are again together, side by side, at 20:00.
That performance was the day after the Corel Center, Ottawa, which has that longest #41, and I remember also there that Roi was watching Jeff blowing his soul.
I agree with the general concept that Sniper has expressed few comments above: if you have a saxophonist like Jeff, why don't you use him in his full potential? I also feel that, slowly, in the last decade, Jeff has been put in a corner, and there are jams where he can't still blow out a fire (#41 is one of them, of course, but not only).
Watching Jeff on his corner on
Raleigh show (7.23.2021) while Brandford Marsalis makes his show, for me is quite sad. That was a moment of the show, of course, but it seems also a metaphor on his diminishing role in the band. I don't know if the "musical director" has anything to do with that, and I find difficult to imagine that RR prefers to give more space to Tim's guitar instead of the guy next to him.
I have made a selection of all the great Jeff solo performances mentioned above, and put them in a single playlist, to listen one after another, and I tell you, it is great stuff. For the people interested, PM me, and I'll link you the playlist.
