I didn't include it on my list because it was my first show and I didn't know any better. As time went on I started to know better which is what makes the shows I listed much worse IMO; especially Star Lake '15... horrendous.

I had the same experience with my first show (6/19/00 Columbus). I was a casual fan who knew the hits, and went with my friends because that's what everyone was doing (I was 18). I couldn't believe DMB didn't play Satellite, Crash, Crush, Ants Marching, etc... basically the only songs I knew. I left very disappointed, but still had a good time on the lawn with my friends. By the following summer I was a full blown fan. I wish I could go to that concert NOW, as the setlist kicks ass! I've definitely seen worse shows since then... 8/20/07 Blossom being the worst.

Anyway, bring on 2018!!! I'm gonna hit Riverbend. I haven't seen DMB there since 2003!

In terms of the big 3, it's easily last place for me.

1) Gorge (camping, 3 shows, amazing venue view)
2) Alpine (crowd energy is best all tour/tailgate scene)
3) Spac (uh...nice parking lot? downtown is cool?)

Gorge is about the entire weekend and the incredible views.

Alpine is my favorite venue by far though.

SPAC is awesome. The park to tailgate in, the town, and the atmosphere. You really don't think there is high crowd energy at SPAC?

I have been to both numerous times and Alpine still beats SPAC.

SPAC is absolutely incredible, everything about the town, venue, etc. is amazing.

But again Alpine still wins

all three are great and have their pluses and minuses. it's really tough for me to put one above either of the other two. I'd say my order would probably be 1a) alpine 1b) gorge 1c) spac but again they're all awesome in their own ways.

In my opinion, Alpine doesn't hold a candle to the Gorge.

By that, they are referring to the stretch of the Columbia River Gorge between Portland and Hood River. 15 years olds were throwing firecrackers of a cliff near Multnomah Falls (30 mins East of PDX). Now 10,000+ acres are burning from that incident.

Basically all of the Pacific NW is on fire, though. Hasn't rained a drop in months, so anything will light this place up.

2002 Spring opened in DC and they did a summer tour that year too as far as I recall.

Also. I've been lucky enough to see some if the biggest names in music (U2, Taylor Swift, Stones, Shania, No Doubt, Garth, Coldplay, Faith/Tim) NONE of them put on different shows each night like DMB. You want different songs? Go to SPAC, Gorge, WPB, etc. Each and everyone of us is fortunate beyond words to see a band that had the ABILITY to change their set every night, not a little bit but a lot. They're among the best in the world right now and have been so for over 2 decades.

Let the band enjoy the year off and hope 2018 brings us all as many incredible concert memories as years past have. Whether you get to one show or eight, be aware that what you're seeing is almost magical. The band goes on stage and catches lightning in a bottle night in and night out.

Yeah, actually, before I went on this trip, before all hell broke loose, me and Carter [Beauford, the DMB drummer] were recording some music together. We have a lot of stuff, so my plan is that we’ll put together some music this fall so we can have something out hopefully the beginning of next year. Hopefully, get it finished before that. I think we have some great music and some stuff that Carter and I worked on that’s added to the pile. There’s a lot to choose from. I just hope I choose wisely.

I mean it's good that they are talking/collaborating/etc, no doubt

They aren't going to release a new album and not tour behind it.

Dave basically said as much in the interview "when we take the big ship out again".

I mean I guess thats not specific to 2018, but its at least confirmation there are plans to tour as a band from him.
