dmtr1999-03-13 on server doesn't match etree

Just an FYI:

The SHNs on the AM http server are sourced from DAE, the 'official' SHNs are sourced directly from the taper (Colluzi (sp?)) They are available at the etree archive.

DON'T TRADE THE SHNs ON THE AM SERVER!

Alex reconverted the dat a little while back. Etree probably has the newest conversion while am has the older one.

Well, just don't trade the 3-13-99 SHNs, as they ARE tainted, Coluzzi didn't fix the levels without a reason.

Getting tainted DAE SHNs sucks in a trade.

just so you know...coluzzi had those "tainted" shns out for 3 years....so there is nothing wrong with them...he just reconverted when he had time...people know what they are getting...its not a big deal...we'll get the reconvert up there

Yes, i know the reconvert came out this year, but there is something wrong with them, they are DAE sourced. The new ones are sourced directly from the DAT. If there wasn't something wrong with the first set, why reconvert in the first place?

apparently. But good god, this was always considered the best sounding D+T out there BEFORE he reconverted it. To say the initial SHNs are "tainted" is kind of strange imho. Alan and Mike know how to do DAE, and truth be known DAE sourced SHNs are not too uncommon for pre 2000 stuff. Tapers didn't all have burners or bandwidth to spare, so a lot of SHNing was done after the fact by a second party who was mailed masters. Then after ripping those masters the WAVs were converted to SHN and seeded to DDS servers for various rounds of trees.

Moreover, a bunch of pre 2000 tapes were converted on standalones (ie...most of Travitz's tapes among others) so any SHNing could not have been done by the taper. I agree the newest incarnation should be on the newer servers but to say the old ones are tainted is silly. They're not tainted just behiond the times

I don't think there was anything "wrong" with the SHNs. I believe he reconverted because of people getting flawed audio copies, not SHN. After three years the chance of a glitch after numerous rips is increased, also the chance of one peson altering the audio minutely is raised...ie fDAO or TAO.

this is the epitome of anal. i cringed at the thought of going into the shn scene because of the whole "original shn" stuff and everything, but realized it was picky for a reason. But this... no.
