Re: Official Television Thread v2.0
I'm honestly kinda dumbfounded at where some of this backlash has come from on Mr Robot (& I mean generally around online, not just here). It felt like after s1 it was being anointed as the best new thing on TV, and not totally unjustifiably so. and again, to be fair, Sam Esmail was very open about how s2 was going to feel significantly different. You can have arguments on whether or not overall it was inferior in relation to s1, but I still don't think it was objectively "bad", not by a long shot.
and this has now been an incredible start to s3, really starting to get a sense of the true, bigger scope of what Esmail has in mind for the whole thing now (I don't recall seeing anything specific from him on this detail, but I'd be very surprised if he had anything in mind for more than 5-6 seasons max for the story he wanted to tell, if he gets to keep control). How episode 2 ended, that was flat out SHOCKING. I didn't remotely see that coming. And it was filmed extremely well.
edit: oh the other detail I wanted to mention-- I like how they're REALLY leaning into the ability they have to simply produce the show as they want, and as far as the language knowing USA can simply bleep out profanity for normal primetime broadcast. I mean in that regard it's like full blown rated R material. Watching a rip from the Amazon feed, 03x02 I swear must've had like a dozen different F-bomb drops.
