Re: 2020 Tour Rumors

I saw a tweet this morning about the NBA. Fauci said he doesn't expect teams to be able to have full capacity at any point in 2020-21 season, even late playoffs/Finals in July is cutting it close. It seems like Fall 2021 is most likely for the return of concerts as we know them.

The logistics of shifting June and July to indoor Fall / Winter shows seems like a logistical nightmare. Someone in the touring industry would know better, but I would assume it would make more sense to just cancel the entire summer tour and have a fresh Fall tour(I would be totally down for this, by the way).

Also, as I write this, realizing this is the 22nd anniversary of my first show. I guess 22 years ago today I was sitting in my seats in the 200 level of the First Union Center waiting for the show to start (I got inside before 7PM not knowing any better).

Once concerts come back, management better be quick for booking any new dates. People have been out of work in the touring/entertainment industry. Dates are going to become a premium at venues. You also have the nba/nhl to compete with for arenas.

2020 was shaping up to be one of the most active touring seasons I could remember. There were a lot of huge tours.

Everyone has been sitting, the first couple years back, once it’s deemed safe, should be a music lovers dream.

TM responded to that article (originally posted by Billboard, I think?) and said it was #fakenews. At least for now.

Right. Now is not yet the time to open that can of worms.

But I do imagine that at some point if you want to go to a concert, amusement park, fly on an airplane, etc... you'll have to either show proof of vaccination, or have proof of a recent negative covid test. Something like that.

Yea, and the thing is even if the vaccine is easily obtained by anyone who wants it (let's pretend) by June I still think events holding 15,000+ people in a venue will still need guidelines if not showing vaccination, like wearing masks the whole time or whatever. And if that's the case, I'm going to guess you can't force someone who bought a ticket to eat the ticket if they don't agree to whatever those new guidelines are.

I'm also going to presume that Capshaw has to make a decision about the tour weeks before the shows start, meaning the shows might need to be rescheduled by the end of April.

Who knows - we will see.

We are supposed to have a big work event in early June and I feel like that timing is going to be such a grey area. If it was any earlier, I think it would be canceled. If it was in late July or August, I think we might be okay. We'll see.

Agreed, June seems VERY optimistic at the moment. Like, everything would have to go perfectly in order to have DMB's tour begin by June 8th. As somebody said earlier, management is probably going to have to make an official call on this by the end of April. Who knows what April will look like, let alone June. My prediction is that none of the June/July dates will go ahead, and the tour will begin in Vancouver on 9/1. I wouldn't care if they rescheduled Riverbend and Deer Creek to October. Fuck it, I'll dress appropriately for the weather and go have a good time. People go to outdoor football games in October/November all the time, shouldn't be any different.

I've tailgated many of times in the fall for football games and always have a blast. Of course I'd rather tailgate in the summer for a variety reasons but yes, fall can happen.

heck, tailgating in the winter is a blast, as long as you have enough adult beverages inside of you to keep you warm

I remember going to Tinley Park 2009 in late September. I'm always surprised how many September shows SPAC has for other bands, too. Fall shows could be a lot of fun I think.

I think the odds of this are actually fairly high. If they play in 21 my pick for the first show is Gorge N1

Just looked at Deer Creek's latest shows in the last couple years.

    October 5, 2018- Chris Stapleton
    October 11, 2019- Luke Bryan

So rescheduling outdoor shows in the midwest in October isn't completely unheard of. Just put on a hat and a hoodie and go have a good time!

I'm kind of torn on if I want this to be the case or not. On one hand I think it might not be a bad idea to play the one show in Vancouver as a warmup, but on the other seeing the first three shows back at an amazing venue like the Gorge would be a great feeling.

I'd probably lean towards the Gorge being the first show back. I think I can get over a little rust after what will have been a two year wait.

I also don't see the first shows just coming out of a pandemic to be in a foreign country. For safety sake, travel between countries may be ill-advised.

Of course I'm going to be wrong, they'll start in Vancouver, open with Seek Up*, and I'll miss it at the Gorge.

*I've been chasing Seek Up and have missed it by one show at least 7 times. Maybe it's just not meant to be.

Seek Up has been played during every Gorge run since 2000 except for 2003 (only 2 nights) and 2009. If you make it to the next run and they don't play it you might actually be cursed.

Boston Mayor was on radio today talking about Bruins and Celtics shooting for fans in arena in February/March. I was surprised to hear this because Massachusetts in general has been relatively strict when dealing with the virus. Gave me a little more hope that touring may actually happen...

Not yet. The 21 dates are already announced. So unless those get moved we won't have any rumors for a potential fall tour for a while.

We had a shot at it, but it was more important to people to go eat indoors at Applebees asap. Congrats, America.

Never would have made a difference, we never had a shot. The virus would have spread regardless. We have proven shutdowns do nothing except postpone mass infection. I realize people like you need someone to blame to feel superior, but the truth is that you can’t expect society to halt for a year or more.

I went to the last show they did in Vancouver and there were lots of empty seats. I remember thinking that there's no way they'll go to Vancouver again. I was wrong......so far

We had a shot at it, but it was more important to people to go eat indoors at Applebees asap. Congrats, America.
I second this. At best, they will cancel the first month or so of the 21' tour... AKA no tour.

Exactly. Look at Florida, Mississippi and Texas compared to California. California is almost 100% locked down but leading in cases. It’s completely unfair to single out restaurants. I feel so bad for all the restaurants suffering through this. All of us are suffering with deaths, loss of work, etc. honestly, no matter which way you lean politically, this sucks. We have a long way to go. I wish we would stop blaming and start paying attention. When you go out count who is and who isn’t wearing masks and practicing social distancing. Log it too. I rarely see anyone not wearing a mask yet cases and hospitals are rising and at capacity respectively. Just pay attention. I was against the vaccine at first but i get the flu vaccine every year. Once the vaccine gets going shows will come back.
