Re: Official Television Thread v2.0

I am now in the 5th season of The Americans. I’ve read a bit about this season apparently being a bit of a dip in quality compared to previous years, but I haven’t felt that yet whatsoever. I’m still enjoying it immensely and intrigued by all the storylines that are being set up. But I am only three episodes in, so I suppose there is still time for it to take a dip.

Watching Castle Rock. Like it, don't love it. There's definitely something there. I just can't figure out what yet.

I finally just watched Castle Rock 01x06, the one supposedly "is the new 'The Constant' from Lost".

ehh... it was definitely an interesting episode, and I can see where they were going with it, whoever it was making that particular comparison, but all in all it didn't really deserve such a description.

I was wondering why in his first scene the kid who was playing Henry's son looked so familiar, then when they were inside the house it hit me -- he played the younger Mike Hanlon in the newest "It" movie, so the Stephen King stuff just gets more meta
(and I'm pretty sure the old deaf black guy was Baby's deaf roommate from Baby Driver)

Finished "Love" on Netflix. It was a good fun little series. I kind of got tired of Mickey being a shit to Gus so much. Also a little irritated they lured us in with two topless girls trying to have a 3way in the first episode and then pretty sure no tits the rest of the series

I thought the group of friends writing credits songs for movies that didn't have them was a pretty funny side theme. At their concert, my favorite though was the one that went something like "This is the song for Footloose. This is the only song for Footloose"

figured I'd mention for anyone who cares, I was wrong apparently on that detail about Castle Rock, that episode 6 was being compared to "The Constant" from Lost. It's the NEXT one, episode 7. For those who don't mind seeing the weekly previews early, here's next week's

Insecure is fantastic, although I wasn’t crazy about tonight’s episode. I don’t find Daniel to be particularly interesting, nor does he have a ton of depth to him.

Yup. Think I’m going to read the book afterwards. Knock it out in a few days.

I've been hate watching it with the wife. She read the book and was in regardless. Calling it a slow burn would be a disservice to slow burns.

last night's episode was very good (finally) and only further proves this thing should have been 4 episodes instead of 8.

Unapologetically enjoy Sharp Objects, pacing included. I look forward to watching every week.

My biggest criticism is the casting of Chris Messina. I find him annoying and not believable in his role.

Totally agree, loved every minute of it. All season long there's been this ominous tension lying just beneath the surface. Gives you this feeling of uneasiness, makes the audience a little uncomfortable and imo makes for some great drama. Yes it's been a slow burn but last nights payoff made it so worth it to me. I stuck through every season of The Americans so I'm used to allowing patience with a slow show and having faith it'll be worth it in the end and I had faith in Jean-Marc Vallee and HBO that they knew what they were doing.

And I agree about Chris Messina, has the same range in this character as his character on The Mindy Project. No real difference, doesn't add anything to the story or any scenes he's in.

A shame since we liked season 1 so much.

I got an itch to watch the s3 finale of Mad Men "Shut The Door, Have A Sea" again yesterday, and I've since wound up watching almost all of season 4 again right after. I don't think I've EVER wound up rebinging any of Mad Men. I don't even really think of it as that type of series, even though its on netflix.

Still haven't finished S2. It was pretty much unwatchable.

I'll give S3 a shot. They're never going to recapture the brilliance of S1 though.
