LT3 is one that really didn't click for me until I had the vinyl set. I've had the CDs since it was released, and not that I didn't think it was a good show, but there was something about it that just felt a little flat and I didn't rank it as one of the top LT's the way most people did for that reason (LT1 and LT8, for example, I much preferred.) However the vinyl just pops and sounds so much more energetic, it's one of my favorites now.

Unreleated, I just picked up a copy of the 1982 CBS half-speed master of Wish You Were Here for $25. I'm generally not a big fan of buying multiple copies of albums if I already have a good one, and I have an original WYWH that is in amazing condition and sounds phenomenal, but I couldn't resist at that price trying it out.

It is a fantastic pressing! I have that, and 2 japanese pressings of WYWH. You will love it!

Awesome, I can't wait to hear it. It was going for $69 on Discogs and my favorite shop here in Chicago had it for $24.99.

Finally getting around to listening to the Academy set

God damn this is good. The band used to have such good dynamics. Everyone complimented each other and no one was burying another with overplaying.

Just ordered Revolver, Rubber Soul and the White Album mono LPs. I've had the mono CD box set since it came out in 2009, so looking forward to hearing these.

I've never been a big Tom Petty fan. Nothing against him, just not really moved much by anything I had heard. Then I was camping with a buddy a few weeks back and he was playing Highway Companion while we sat around the campfire and I really enjoyed it. So, I picked up the LP last night and holy shit thats a pretty awesome album, so I'm looking at the liner notes and its nearly all Tom Petty on every instrument. So I'm thinking, maybe I just don't like the Heartbreakers? So Tom Petty fans. What other non-heartbreakers stuff is out there?

I love TP. He's got the albums with the traveling wilburys (george harrison, bob dylan and roy orbison). He's got a bunch after that which are just "him solo". He's obviously playing with others. I personally think all of his stuff sounds like "tom petty"...

At least you can very likely recoup your investment now that you've heard it, and spend it on a couple audiophile releases that DO sound amazing.

Highway Companion is amazing and highly underrated. Square One is one of the best ballads he's ever written. Flirting With Time is a favorite of mine as well.

For "non Heartbreakers," he has 3 solo albums - Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers, and Highway Companion. All 3 still heavily involve Mike Campbel. FMF and Highway have other members of the Heartbreakers as support in some spots, while Wildflowers is really a TP & The Heartbreakers album in all but name (and also quite possibly his best.)

To me it's less about the band as it is about his overall sound - IMO there's a very clear divide between his early 70s/80's work and his later stuff. Full Moon Fever is the dividing point for me where the sound gets rootsier, more introspective and he really started painting with a wider palette. I love the early stuff too, but to me he's that rarest of artists that got better with age. Echo is an absolutely stunning record, but doesn't get a lot of attention because it came from a really dark place in his life and they rarely did stuff from it live after it came out. (Though he started to throw in 'Swingin'' which is one of my favorites on the final tour.)

I got my order from ImportCDs yesterday (really quick shipping!) and can confirm that the copy of Dire Straits 'Love Over Gold' was EU and pressed at MPO, per the deadwax, so it's definitely this pressing:

    https://www.discogs.com/Dire-Straits...lease/11205690

The labels also match the image on this listing with the orange-yellow fade color - the GZ pressing has red labels. Other than that, they are identical right down to the hype sticker. Haven't had a chance to spin yet, but glad to have gotten this MPO pressed version as I did read a lot about cracking sounds and surface noise with the GZ press.

The Communique is definitely the 2010 Pallas pressed version.

I have the day off work today due to going to the PJ show at Wrigley last night, and had intended to spend this entire afternoon spinning these at high volume, but damnit if my wife didn't leave work sick yesterday and end up calling in today so now she's thrown a monkey wrench in my day off.

Same here. They even gave me a partial refund once for something I ordered that had a huge price drop like 2 days later. Their packaging is great, shipping is quick, and you can get some damn good deals when you use that 20% off $60 promo.

Ordered from ImportCDs many times, usually SACDs as they have great pricing on Audio Fidelity and MOFI SACD titles - nothing but good things to say about them.

Thought I submitted this but it didn't seem to post so sorry if a duplicate-ish shows up.

Those really are reasonably priced for signed items. How was the show? I'm a huge fan but the show I saw in VB this month was easily the worst of the ~15 times I've seen them.

This is the truth. This is easily one of the best sounding records I own. It comes through better than most of the best AAA pressings I own like MoFi's Sea Change. It's a little pricey at $55 but worth every penny for this one.

Separately, I'm not sure who but I remember there was a Secret Machines fan on this thread somewhere. Run Out Groove has 10 Silver Drops up for a potential repress. Vote here:

They re-pressed Now Here is Nowhere and did a great job with it for a solid price. I never bought the 10 Silver Drops OP because side A is 25+ minutes and I figured it would just sound like garbage. I wrote to Run Out Groove and they said if it wins they'll "make sure that it gets produced to the highest standards." No obligation to buy if it wins and if it looks like they'll do a decent job (like at least press to 3 sides of 2LPs) I'd be all over it. There are some songs on that album I absolutely adore and the tour on that album was something really special.
