WATM-Where do you hear "classic" DMB?

Which song or songs on the album remind you of "old" DMB?

For me, It Could Happen sounds like "old" DMB and the song itself gives me a hint of You Never Know.

Not DMB, but in Monsters I hear a little Up and Away.

The first half of After Everything sounds like it could be on Big Whiskey. Yes, it's old, 14 years!!! How the hell did that much time pass?

Some in Walk Around the Moon, the riff in Madman's Eyes. OATB feels like someone dug up a time capsule of old DMB and it was in there. It Could Happen feels like old school DMB. After Everything has some vibes early on. All of AYWWT. Only Thing feels like an alternate dimension Too Much. Break Free IS classic DMB, but modernized in its studio take. Monsters has a vibe to it, but not sure I'd call it the classic DMB sound.

I was going to say Madman's Eyes has some BTCS in it, but the chorus ruins it.

On the album. It's this. The first 20 seconds of this song sounds like classic DMB.

Live: LFAV is the classic DMB soundcheck sound which has been talked about already.

None really, maybe MME, and I actually like it like that. Each DMB album gives me a different feel and I’m enjoying this one quite a bit.

Re: WATM-Where do you hear "classic" DMB?

The outro of Walk Around the Moon.
The middle eastern vibe of Madman’s Eyes.
The melody and simple riff of LFAV.
    OATB entirely.
The vocals on It Could Happen.
The first half of AE (big whiskey era)
    The guitar riff on AYWWT
    Dave’s falsettos on TOT
Break Free because it’s from 2006
    Monsters’ bridge

I hear classic Dave moments throughout the entire album. I will agree with those that only intermittently hear the band’s sound.
I can relate to people who say it’s a Dave album with the band supporting. I guess I just don’t see that as a bad thing necessarily. Roi and Boyd are gone, so it makes perfect sense.

Yes, I agree with this! First time I heard it was a few nights ago and it took me a minute to place it.

This, and not for the better. CT and this new album are so forgettable. No excitement in hearing any of these songs IMO.

Exactly. I really wish the chorus was different. The falsetto vocals and lyrics are dog water.

Madman's Eyes is the only song on the album that really suffers from Dolby Atmos. In stereo, the background vocals do a good job blending in with Dave's voice. But in Dolby Atmos, it separates their voices, and you can hear Dave is struggling lol.

Re: WATM-Where do you hear "classic" DMB?

There are signature "Dave" guitar parts all over this album.

WATM - The chorus is about as DMB a progression as you can get.
MME - This is the... third version of this sound so far, fourth if you count Squirm?
LFAV - The most non-DMB song to me yet somehow still a DMB song. The ditch is still getting dug. Complaints about production are understandable.
OATB - Sounds like a lost hidden track from UTTAD.
ICH - It has that classic, skip-hop, walking guitar sound that's core to many classics.
STTMB - Classic tiny solo song. I really hated this when he started playing it since it is what it is, but it is also very good and brief.
AE - This one is pretty unique but carries on the tradition of a "festive" song being on the album.
AYWWT - Yet another classic-style riff, though not as good as Jimi. I need to listen to this one more.
TOT - Doesn't sound like the old days, but it is the big old love bomb song for the album and nails that, especially vocally.
Break Free - Literally is classic DMB.
Monsters - Dave chords meet Dad chords, this song may be the best example of merging classic DMB with the band we have today.
SFTW - Another classic Dave solo song and arguably the best song on the album.

I will concede that the rest of the band could be more present at times. My view is very Dave-centric since he is at least 90% of what makes this band interesting.

There are a few - not many. Break free will be part of not "old dmb" but a not far off iteration of the classic band.

Classic DMB example on the album: https://youtu.be/bX_mr05he1Y?t=118

True, classic DMB was great, the music the band in it’s current form is releasing is far from that, so I guess that would make sense.

This. When we heard this live for the first time last year and realized it wasn't Minarets, I dubbed it "Minarets from Wish."
