I don't disagree, but I also don't care. It's not like you don't get the rest of the song along with it.

Last nights drive in was amazing and I can't wait until the audio gets posted here. I just loved that setlist. So exciting from beginning to end.

The stone to me is one of my favorites and it kills me each time they go into chfil. Wish they wouldn’t do it. There’s always people trying to get them to go into it and I’m normally the guy yelling to cut it out. I’ve seen the stone several times and have been at shows were the crowd tried their best to get the band down that path but the band didn’t want any part of it. Yet I’ve seen them sucked into it as well. Last night was the first time I’ve seen the band engage the audience with it and I can’t express the disappointment. I really felt like doing something unpleasant to Jeff with his saxophone. Other than that I enjoyed the show.

They’ve been doing the Elvis interpolation full band with the crowd singing for years now...Maybe going back as far as 2014?

It’s whatever to me. It’s just been played out at this point (like Sexy MF).

The crowed has been singing it like since at least 2005. I think even Roi used to interpret it.

I’m referring to the crowd singalong part only. You’re right, they did it in ‘05 at Red Rocks, but I think that was a one-off until around 2014. Since then they’ve done it almost every time I think.

The Elvis interpolation originates from his Charlie Rose performance in 1999, I think. The first time the crowd did it was in 2005-

    https://youtu.be/gnEqIfaUe9k?t=2242

Leroi even interpolates it on the studio version if you pay attention.

The crowd has sung it many times before 2014. They did at Citi Field (they muted it on the official release) and Hartford 2012, at least with the shows I've been to. I think even at WPB 2010.

If Jeff plays it on the sax, the crowd will follow. That’s just how it works. Trying to fight it will only cause you stress and hinder your ability to enjoy the show... just go along with it and enjoy it.

Ahh, okay, thanks. And I never knew that about the Citi Field release, that’s strange. I actually forgot that release existed until you just mentioned it. Haha

I don't mind CHFIL as I guess I'm just used to it and they still have plenty of time for Jeff to go off, I like the "I Started a Joke" Bee Gees cover that got thrown in here:

I think when it comes to certain interpolations, music is fine, but singing is not, even if it's the crowd lol. On PM, Rashawn does a New York, New York interpolation that's on the release, but Dave also sang it and that was edited out of the release. It's a shame too, it would've been nice.

    Yeah that would’ve been cool.

It’s weird because they’ve officially released versions with the crowd singing the Elvis interp. since the Citi release.

That's part of my issue as well. All the old tropes of interpolations and covers are tired for me. If you're gonna do the interpolations and covers, do NEW tunes and incorporate them into DIFFERENT DMB tunes. The next time they do 41, just do the song basic with a slightly extended outro solo, and then maybe add a jam to Grey Street...let that roll or be interpolated to 8-10 mins.

I realize that takes more work and practice by the band, but keeping it fresh is a standard they've set.

The Can't Help Falling In Love outro on The Stone from SPAC '09 is one of my favorite DMB concert moments I've witnessed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liByn_3_ikM

Released on a warehouse disc a couple years ago.

So just pulled some random stones. 6/17/08 and spac 2009. 6/17/08 Roi did the interp but Not the crowd. 6/13/09 was both Jeff and the crowd. So yeah it’s been around for a while pre 2014 or whatever.

The CHFIL interpolation has been happening for a long time... all the way back to the Charlie Rose interview:

I think since Jeff’s been in the band they’ve done that interpolation every single time they’ve played the stone. Kind of a calling card at this point.

Yeah and outside of Roi playing the melody on the sax, I've never been a fan of the idea. Oddly, I'd heard/seen clips of CHFIL bit a few times and didn't care for it, and even less so in context.

It's tired from my perspective, as are a lot of old interpolation tropes and covers (as stated in my previous text). Hani Hani/Honey Honey, the crowd singing the first verse or so of Jimi Thing, the sing alongs with Ants, Billies, Crush, etc. those are the band's music, the music we all love (at least in part). They aren't my favorite parts of a show either, but it's DMB music which is what I'm interested in.

I'd rather they never do any more covers and that interpolations only be of their songs. But you know who doesn't ask me? And who doesn't care? You know...

Crappy one...uninspired nostalgia that I'm not interested in hearing.
