For me personally, once I get Luther College on vinyl, I think that's probably the last DMB show I will be purchasing on that medium unless they do something like this and release it as a vinyl exclusive, or if the vinyl mastering is better than the digital. 6 shows plus Live 25 is enough for me.

I really would prefer properly mastered hi res FLACS at this point.

Are you in favor of a full live show being released exclusively on vinyl?

As long as a download code is included and the release is offered to everyone in whatever format they prefer, yes. And as long as the shows are good.

I don't think you understand the term exclusive. But you're also not alone in that.

    Re: Vinyl Release Question (Poll)

What's the advantage to exclusively releasing on vinyl as the poll question asks? I think people are misreading the question thinking it's asking if shows should be released on vinyl at all, not exclusively. I'm in favor of releasing them on vinyl, but it should be released on other formats as well. That's why I voted NO in the poll. I've been collecting vinyl for about 15 years and I think it's dumb to only offer a release in a single format. Give people choices. I purchased the digital version of DMB Live 25 and skipped the vinyl version.

Hilly won't answer the bolded. He clearly made this poll to poke the bear after people were upset that Live 25 wasn't initially offered as a digital release, even though the intent was to release it digitally all along.

Just to make people angry. That's the only reason. Any time a band has released a 7" or a RSD exclusive, it's been out of spite.

That's not what you're asking in this poll, like, at all. And strangely enough everything this band has released on RSD has been released previously on another format.

What is the benefit to DMB releasing a show "exclusively" on vinyl and only vinyl? Try to answer the question.

This sounds like sarcasm. Seriously, what's the answer to that question?

According to someone whose name is on the product that isn't an AM.org member, the initial intent was not to offer in any other formats. Now they could be mistaken, but it does make sense to me, because if they had intended to offer it digitally all along then why not have created two mixes instead of the 10 side fade outs from the vinyl? All of the first 5 LT releases have digital versions that don't fade out like the vinyl side breaks do, and if the files are identical other than the side breaks then your mastering is going to be much more simple as the moves will be identical.

Everything that I head regarding this was that vinyl was the primary format but not the only format to be released. I trust my source.

This. I'm all for releasing stuff on vinyl for those that like it. Just don't shut out 98% of the fan base by releasing never before released material to only 2500 people with no other option to legally acquire it.

But what if it's just a fun little release?

Exclusivity sells more units than not, making it more financially worth it to produce the vinyl.

    It's done to sell.

    But also spite and hatred.

But does the amount of downloads they would sell result in more profit than the vinyl units they would lose out on if it was not an exclusive?

There should never be any strictly vinyl releases and this is coming from someone who’s about to have a setup really soon
