Most Underrated Live Trax

SSIA. You can only pick one. Feel free to elaborate.

I’m going with LT 22.

Mostly because of Jeff being able to do what he does.

LT13. It has possibly the best mix of any DMB live release and has the best Crush ever.

I agree on the mix and Crush. Why can’t all the LT be mixed like this haha.

Most underrated, LT21 (8.4.95) Perfect setlist and amazing performances from my favorite era. Also, the best Seek Up of all time.

Agree with 13. 11 is one that flew under my radar quite a bit. that got a lot of play from me last summer. 25 is also highly underrated and was made even better with that Drive-in. Really great performances on that one with one of my favorite versions of Grey Street with Roi.

OP asks for one but it’s tough to say just one

    LT 17, 18, and 12.

LT 17 has a cult following here and LT 18 has some of the best dave speak. But they’re forgotten about Bc they have such a similar set and sound so close in sound (97 and 96 respectively)

LT 12 is from 95 and again very similar set and sound.

Their performances are tight and that early DMB rawness is beginning to polish.

95-97 is my favorite era of this band Bc of these three LT

I find myself going back to LT14 often and love the mix. Especially Dave’s guitar. That tone in the intro to ODH is very good and amongst my favorite mixes of his guitar on any live release with the full band.

31 has such a cool crisp mix. Find myself going back to it often. Love the way Carter and Stefan are front and center with everyone else nicely balanced. Obviously a lot of Everyday songs and LL’s pop up but the band never sounded better IMO.

    Re: Most Underrated Live Trax

10, 14, and 29 are three of my favorites.

10 is a greatest hits setlist. Nothing groundbreaking in the song choices there, but the performances remind me why those songs are “greatest hits” in the first place. And much like Central Park, Dave keeps talking about how awesome it is to play there. You can feel his excitement.

14’s setlist has always flowed very well for me. A nice mix of hits and deeper cuts which make it go by fast for me, in the good way. I believe this was the first year they started beginning Idea of You with the riff as opposed to the verse chords, and I think this was my first time hearing it like that, as well as the acoustic Space Between on the raised B guitar.

I’m a sucker for a show-closing Ants Marching. I’d be ok with it ending every show I’m at. I love 29 because it has Granny/Crush/Ants (the big 3 for me that I could take at any show and it would be a special one, no matter what else happens). I’m also a sucker for the Veillette and Idea of You. Plus, it’s nice to have the full-band Save Me, and great renditions of some of the better songs from AFTW. I come back to this Rooftop a lot.

When I resume cigar smoking again (I decided to go smoke-free in 2020), I look forward to sitting outside and finally watching these drive-ins with a cigar. Especially the ones for 14 and 29.

Just because you specifically said underrated, not favorite, I will abide by your rules.. Mine is LT 19... What a show.. It's very jam heavy. The band is playing with a raw passion having just lost Leroi... I'm sure heading to South America was a therapeutic if not cathartic experience to deal with his loss.. But the band is firing on all cylinders.. Great 2008 set. A ton of energy from the crowd.. I think the mix is pretty darn good too. Not perfect. But nothing about the mix is noticeable bad like some LTs which can distract from a good show... like the latest 54 with the weird vocal mix... They're not all perfect, which is part of the fun. I like that they all have a different sound to them..

Give it a shot if you didn't give it a chance years ago. I think you'll enjoy.

For runner up though I'll say LT 32. It gets a ton of flac for being the 2014 set that was chosen at the time. But the acoustic set is fantastic... I'll say the main set drags a bit here and there, but it's still a quality show and a good mix...

Absolutely love 31.. It waited on it for a few years and but wish I didn't! Great sound, much better than Folsom. Great set. Love the bonus disc it came with. It really rounds out that year. They didn't have too much variety with 6-10 songs every night coming from Everyday, but with the Folsom release and this one, I think 2001 is covered very well.. Would absolutely take another set from that year. The band really was very good and it was an energetic fresh take when it could have gotten stale after 2000...

Looking back, I'm glad they scrapped the Lillywhites and did Everyday for the sake of the live show if nothing else.. I think playing those sad introspective songs for a couple tours, without the counter balance of the more upbeat Everyday shows would have been pretty heavy. From a marketing perspective it was a great move. Still wish LWS would have been completed as a real album in 2003 or something.. not the bastardized Busted Stuff version.. But in all honestly we still get all those songs pretty regularly... They've become as important to the catalog as any songs from the Big 3 IMO... Big Eyed Fish, Bartender, Grace is Gone, Raven, the rare SUAD, etc... never get upset with those in a set..

My perfect 2001 show would look like this:

    I Did It
    What Would You Say
    Big Eyed Fish
    Bartender
    So Right
    Everyday
    Recently
    Don't Drink the Water
    Prelude to Grace
    Grace is Gone
    When the World Ends
    Fool to Think

    What You Are
    JTR
    Jimi Thing
    Watchtower
    The Space Between
    Stay

I can't get into this one for some reason... I like early DMB periodically, but something about the lack of flow on this makes it unenjoyable.. I don't like the compilation thing. Would much rather have just taken a full set with a bonus disc rather than sets being chopped up... Even if it meant a few repeats from RTT

But I think it's a favorite. I would say anyone into Live Trax has this at the top of their list... every time anyone asks what LT show should I get, multiple people always say "ya know LT 13 is underrated and you should check it out"... it's like saying Cornell 77 is a show you should check out from Grateful Dead... Ya... It's fucking great!

That doesn't mean it isn't underrated though, my pick is LT2, which yes is a fan favorite but I think it's easily in the top 3 of all LT whereas most people seem to think it's below that.
