What in the actual fuck DC? Now I know it's not in full context or really explained, but seriously - what are they doing? Batman was the one thing (prior to WW) that was well received in the DCEU. I feel like that's just another way to say Affleck probably won't do it. Which really sucks.

I've been waiting for this - the trailer for Batman V Two Face. Featuring Burt Ward as Robin, William Shatner as Two Face, and Adam West in his last ever performance as Batman. Also, it's neat to notice that Harvey Dent looks a lot like young Shatner from the old Star Trek Animated Series. Can't wait to watch this!

it'll depend on how the movie turns out for me, I love MoS, BvS, and WW and I'm looking forward to JL but I'm not invested in the DCEU beyond just wanting good movies

WB seems kind of hell bent on making a mess of this situation. Even if both Joker movies were good it will be very confusing to casual movie audiences. Two cinematic universes, two different sets of actors, same characters, and the movies are being made concurrently.

More power to them, but it's unnecessary.

Edit: with Fridge's post does that mean we could have 3 Batmans? DCEU Ben, whoever is in Reeves, and then the new Joker universe Batman?

it seems like they were in the process of phasing out the DCEU in favor of standalones before WW was a huge success and now they don't know what w=they want to do so there's DCEUs and standalones crowding the pipeline

I just think that even if they make a great DCEU Batman, Matt Reeves Batman, and whatever this new Scorsese universe winds up being. That the existence of different Batman universes will hurt the turnout for all three.

It's also strange Suicide Squad was a minor success and immediately had a sequel announced and a spinoff with Gotham Sirens. They've announced and teased all these DCEU projects, even cast a Black Adam, without having a story or purpose to serve.

It's really disappointing that WB/DC doesn't have a clear plan or vision for its future.

That being said, I will blindly see their movies almost no matter what.

Yeah, frankly, I don't have a lot of confidence in WB/DC to put in the planning to come up with a truly connected universe, so I'm all in for standalones. I agree that there's a good chance it will cause a lot of confusion with casual moviegoers who won't understand why Batman keeps changing, but I think there's also a chance we will get much better films out of it than if they had continued down the solely "shared universe" route.

Literally the only thing that I'm hopeful about right now. At minimum, I get an at least ~60% (by most accounts) Zack Snyder helmed Justice League film starring Ben Affleck as Batman.

Beyond that, all bets are off. What would really get me excited is a picture of Ben on set of the Reeve's directed Batman - which I know is well off into the future.

I'm a massive DC , but you're right. Marvel has everything planned out in phases and has done a great job with execution.

DC at this point seems to be throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

This is kinda dumb. The only way I think I'd be okay with this is if it's on a different Earth. Or part of an Elseworlds story like Gotham by Gaslight.

I think that was most people. He's a fine actor but did not see him as Batman. The Honest Trailer put it pretty well about BvS "The actor who everyone thought would be the worst part of this movie, is by far the best part of this movie."

Well, now, apparently Reeves has clarified that it will take place within the DCEU but will be more like WW in that it will not tie in with the other movies directly:

Honestly it hadn't even crossed my mind that it wouldn't be in the DCEU until that report the other day - which triggered my post itt.

Then, last night, I actually listened to the interview with Reeves. He was pretty clearly just speaking off the cuff and trying to indicated that this won't be the Iron Man 2 of the DCEU. It's a standalone insofar as it's about Batman and takes place within the universe established, but doesn't necessarily mean cameos, winks and nods.

I'm cool with that. Now on the Affleck news...anyone's guess.

I honestly don't know what's faker news, the comic book movie sites or political reporting

Both put equally absurd spins on statements that seem relatively straightforward but have a slight wiggle room of interpretation. I may have to start actually listening to the interviews etc. myself to come to my own conclusions. The race to be "first" on comic book news has made it full of inaccuracies and spin. Sad!
