Re: **Official Running Thread**

No turkey trot for me, I'm traveling thanksgiving morning.

That's ok though. I raced enough this year. 8K, half, 5k, 10k, marathon, 5k.

I'm loving my base building off season right now.

good appt. this time, just really tight hips- need to do more pigeon to avoid my muscles over/under compensating

    love this shit

I just weighed myself for the first time in like 3-4 months. . I need to lose about 10 pounds. I've been eating and drinking whatever I want for a while. Time to get healthier.

eh. seems like you've been running as fast as ever. i wouldn't worry too much about the scale. could be a combo of a little healthy weight gain and more muscle than 4 months ago. plus, you're also going to be several pounds heavier mid/late day compared to morning

I hear ya. Anytime runners talk about weight it's a sensitive subject. For reference Im 6 feet and 170ish. Ideally for race weight I'd be low 160s. That's when I was running my fastest last year. I don't think I have any body dysmorphia or anything like that.

I just straight up have not been eating healthy. Lunch on Friday was McDonald's: 2 cheeseburgers, 1 McChicken, and fries (and if you're jealous, Laura, you can compare that to what I did for my WO on Saturday ). I'm totally living the "I run 40+ miles a week, I can eat whatever I want" mentality

So there’s a chance this extra ring around my waist is muscle?

Had to put on my running tights this AM. Wind chill was 13. I mean, they were tight in the waist 10 pounds ago….not sure how the stitching stayed together for my run

I gotta up my cold weather running gear. When it's cold, I generally run in a very thin Under Armor baselayer and then a fleece quarter zip over that. But the back of my neck and my elbow pits get so hot/sweaty.

I use underamour cold gear compression. https://www.amazon.com/Under-Armour-...9079156&sr=8-4

That's usually enough to keep me warm. If I need to cut the wind a little bit more I throw on a t-shirt or a long sleeve and that'll be fine down to probably zero.

Then on the bottom I use underamour cold gear tights. Then I put shorts on on top of those. That is usually all I need down to zero.

Then I wear a Balaklava and a headband. That's usually enough down to zero.

Then I wear running gloves. If it's real cold I'll put socks on top. That's usually enough down to zero.

Then regular socks. Two pairs if it's real cold or snowy. That's usually enough down to zero.

Below zero I don't run outside.

I tried on one of those UA cold gears last year. Literally almost got stuck in it. struggled for at least 5 minutes getting it off. Was panicking in the DSG fitting room.

Maybe I’ll try a size up.

Half. Training starts January 8. I think the race is first weekend in April.

    A goal: sub 1:28
    B goal: sub 1:30
C goal: PR so like sub 1:33 (wouldn't be surprised if I hit this in training)

    Re: **Official Running Thread**

2022 is a wrap for me. I ended up running 8 more miles than I did in 2021. 1,788.

Overall it was a disappointing year. A tale of two halves. January and February I chose not to run very much, less than 60 miles each. March I started running again but I ramped up the training too fast. Half way through April I developed a foot injury that lasted on and off through June. In total I only ran about 550 miles total for the first 6 months.

The second half was completely different. End of June/July I started building my mileage for the marathon. August was my most monthly miles ever (272) and peak weekly mileage (70+). September began my taper and the twin cities marathon was the beginning of October. I was disappointed with my time (3:30ish) and now I know it's because of my lack of miles the beginning half of the year.

Following the marathon I have done a great job of maintaining miles. November and December were both 170+. All in all the second half of 2022 I ran about 1200 miles.

I didn't hit my goal times for 2022 so I am carrying them over for 2023

    5k: 18:36
    10k: sub 38
    Half: sub 1:28
    Full: sub 3:05

My immediate plans is to train for a half thatnl is scheduled for the first week of April. I plan to run an 8k the end of April but then I don't know what else I will do.

    Happy trails!

    Re: **Official Running Thread**

as far as my 2022 year in runnng, i am very happy i snagged a marathon PR with average to below average training. for me the game changer was figuring out how to fuel my body right during the long runs. looking back on my decade of marathon running, i can't believe how underfueled i was for 90% of it. like, i remember eating a salad the night before my first marathon. WTF?

in the past 8 months i've also been focusing more on incorporating strength training so i can hopefully adapt well to higher intensity training come the end of january, for another may 26.2. i know running a spring half and a fall full would be a smarter approach to maximize my potential, but as a female i dont really have that freedom if i want to try and start a family. would rather have an end date to marathon grinding before trying to get pregnant

Just finished! It was just a simulated 5k race by myself. I picked out a pretty easy course because it snowed like 6 inches last night and I figured that easy course + 13 degrees + snowy course = a fair test for my fitness.

    Nailed it!

18:26 which is 5:57 miles. I was strong and steady. My fastest time since high school. Very happy with it and very pleased with my half marathon training so far (3 weeks in). Much easier and enjoyable than marathon training, especially in the winter where it's hard to do the volume.

Caz did you run on the road? Sidewalks?

Our sidewalks and city bike path aren’t typically cleared after a snow which really sucks.
