Re: Albums as live collections of songs (+/-) Come Tomorrow

There is a huge difference between liking something better and thinking it's better in quality. It has nothing to do with being in denial, lying, or being musically inept . Preference is preference...and preference changes on a daily basis.

I tend to believe its a combo of A&B with maybe a little of D. Look, if I feed you Prime Ribeyes (Big 3) one night and then I give you cold meatloaf (some of the later material) the next night and you act like both meals in your eyes are equal and your just happy that I gave you some meat I won't believe you. I will think it is either A, B or somehow D.

I can't buy into C. I'm happy and I still like this band a shitload. I just refuse to pretend I love meatloaf.
    Well said

I guess I would say people have different perspectives. I love this album, like I love the Big 3. Actually, what Yankee said is very apt... I just like all of the music and don't think about it too much. There is more of it from the original era that I enjoy, but there's something for any mood I'm in, and I appreciate that. Look, I'm not actively searching out studio Stand Up, but if I put the album on I'd listen to it. There's an unhealthy amount of people on this website that just yell into the echo chamber about how much they don't like certain eras of this band, without seeming to accept that it's still on DMB, just not YOUR DMB. I play music partially for a living, went to music school and still listen to pretty much any DMB, Come Tomorrow included. This album gave me a lot of light in a very rough few years and for that I will always be grateful.

All of this to say that people can like or dislike what they want. But the amount of people who can't just accept that others like CT or AFTW or hell, even SU as much as the big three is so odd to me. It's just music. People come to music for different reasons.

It is very odd, no doubt, but it’s only a very small group of a very small group of a fan base. Makes me come back for more though.

Nothing. I throw Stand Up on while driving around on a sunny summer day sometimes. I enjoy it. I still rated it a negative for its poll in this series though, and would say it's not a good album.

The only album I actively don't enjoy, in any form live or studio, is this turd.

Again and Again is a pretty great studio track, but it's a snooze live.

I really love Again and Again on the album, and I really liked seeing it live when it was Bob Law, but just something about songs where Dave is just standing there not playing and just singing make me lose interest immediately. I dread hearing it live now, which is weird I guess, but it's how I feel.

Re: Albums as live collections of songs (+/-) Come Tomorrow

An important distinction with this one is the "live" collection part. I think as an album- it's terribly messy. For me the best songs are clearly the Cavallo tracks- not just in production but I really believe those are the best written. Sam Cop, VITR, B&BB, A&A are all good songs to me (especially where they were going with them live before the album release) so I like to see them live. So while this technically has a +1 for me in this context, the album itself and how it was sloppily thrown together probably would have me in the 0 or -1 category.
