Re: Lawncare/Landscape Thread

I know it may not be much, but I felt like #mechanicman or something after my mower was idling rough last week. Sunday I took off the carbeurator and took it apart and cleaned it up, stuck some wires and my dick in the jets to clean out the pin holes, put it back together and it purred like a kitten.

Found a Home Depot nearby that still has some milo, otherwise it is completely sold out. Thinking of heading down there today to grab a bag or ten of it then stick my dick in it

    It will happen very soon.

Grabbed six bags of milo yesterday. But it irritates me that is it so so expensive now. Price has gone up about 50% since I started using it a few years back.

Just checked the soil temp and the 5-day average jumped all the way up to 44 degrees within the last few days. Supposed to be in the 70's today, so I might have to put my herbicide and fertilizer down on Sunday or Monday. So it begins!

I got the email alert today from Greencast saying the soil temperature is about right to put down pre-emergent. I was going to do it yesterday, but we're currently getting about 1 inch of pouring rain today and I was a little worried about the product washing away with that much rain. I'm hoping to do it tomorrow when it dries out.

Probably better here than in the irritating thread, but my neighbor has just let his lawn go to absolute shit, which is a shame because he used to have pretty good looking lawn. Now its overgrown, full of bare spots because he over-fertilized, and now weeds are starting to overtake it.
So I mowed my neighbor's lawn for him. He asked me to just go over the really high spots, but I just did the whole thing. Apparently he is going to "aeriate" and reseed soon. I think he'd have better luck waiting until the fall at this point and just controlling the weeds for now, but he wants to try to get his lawn back in shape sooner rather than later.

Nice. I'm dealing with a similar neighbor situation. She's a single mom to an adult son who has moved out within the past year. Since then, the yard has gone to utter shit. I can't really fault her, she works two bartending jobs so I'm sure the lawn is the last thing on her mind.

She did text me the other night with a nice compliment, though:

"Ok, I don't know what you did to your lawn but DAMN you are the grass guru!!! Looks great!!"

I wanted to offer to help her out with hers, but I couldn't think of a tactful way to do so. My wife thought it would only serve to piss her off and back-handidly insult her

Gonna get in a fresh mow tonight after work, can't wait

Not to question you at all, because why the hell would I, but it seems strange that down in North Carolina you're just creeping out of dormancy now, whereas up here in CT my grass has been growing like crazy for 3-4 weeks now. I think tonight will already be my third mow of the season.

So it's usually a few things, the type of grass (Bermuda in my case) and the age of the lawn. My lawn is only three years old. New build home with sod laid in fall 2015. My whole neighborhood is 5 years old max and everyone's lawn goes dormant. My previous house before this had tall fescue and it never went dormant. I had to mow early in March and late well into November.

Ah, gotcha. I've got a blend in my yard of Tall Fescue, perrenial rye, and Kentucky Bluegrass. The tall fescue is growing like fucking crazy right now.

When I overseed in the fall, I'm going to do so primarily with Kentucky blue, I think. I just love the way it looks and feels, and it's perfect for my area and level of usage. The tall fescue blend was great for establishing the yard but I want to morph it into something a little more deep green, which I realize will happen over time as the yard matures overall.

    Re: Lawncare/Landscape Thread

Putting down my pre-emergent tonight. It's my first time with this new product and it's a commercial-grade product, so I'm a little nervous. This is the product I got:

    https://www.domyown.com/gemini-granu...SABEgKAbvD_BwE

Seems that I have to make sure it doesn't contact my skin based on the instructions and need to probably stay off the lawn for a day, but based on all the research I did last summer to find this product I think it should work well. Grass is just barely starting to green up, so a mow and fertilizer is probably still a week or two away.

Nah, bro. His lawnmower is broken, and his regular lawn care guy hasn't responded to him so I did him a solid.

Plus, I'm a grown-ass man with a full-time job. Why would I charge my neighbor for mowing his lawn?

    Uh...because you mowed his lawn.
Not saying you should charge him...but he didn’t compensate in any way?
Couple of beers in the garage?

Good mow last night. Threw down a weed and feed as I haven't fertilized yet this year and I noticed some creepy/crawly stuff starting to spread. Otherwise happy with how things are looking thus far, it's been growing like crazy.

Put my herbicide down yesterday and watered this morning. Neighbors probably thought I was crazy turning my irrigation system on already and watering. We still get into the 30's at night sometimes, but I had to water the herbicide to activate it and it's not supposed to rain here until Saturday (might be snow even they said, stupid). Soil temps demanded that the herbicide get started now since it's been in the 60's and 70's for highs several times over the last week. Lawn is just coming out of hibernation. Probably won't need to mow or fertilize for another week at least.
