Re: Bismarck

I think my biggest problem with this song is that Dave is trying to stay high up in his vocal register. I really love the music, the lyrics and vocal structure are cool sounding too, but just don't like where his voice settled on it, specifically the chorus. Still a solid tune though, really enjoyed all three new ones.

My thoughts exactly. Dave tries to sing too many lyrics at a time in both of those songs. When I was listening along, I thought black and blue bird too. This song itself is better IMO. It has a nice Paul Simon feel to it

The one thing all three of these new songs have in common...

Someone must have gotten in Dave's ear and told him to write some songs that are not just 1 long run on sentence with no melody.

It does have that STJL feel to it...lyrics aren't as good IMO

I've said it in a few threads that this song reminds me of Paul Simon.

    Old bus station, 5 AM
    there's people going everywhere
some come home, some stay away, no matter
lonely prince till the queen came in
he looked at her, she looked at him
nothing would ever be the same, not ever

This verse particularly just screams Paul Simon to me.

I think the end of this song is reminiscent of the ending jam on Rapunzel. The chord progression seems similar.

Also, I can definitely hear Boyd sawing away on the violin during this song. I hope they feature it more on the album version.

Been listening to DMB since 1992 and this is the most excited I've gotten for a new song since Sugar Will, The Idea of You, and Shotgun.

    Would love an album of:
    A Dream So Real
    Sugar Will
    Bismarck
    Black and Blue Bird
    The Idea of You
    Samurai Cop
    Virginia in the Rain
    Bob Law
    Shotgun
Here On Out (other song on that chart we haven't heard, but it sounds like a good album ending title)

I agree 100%. I love this song and I love the story. I too want more.

Though I do believe it is the best song Dave has penned in a long, long time.
