If we’re talking about production, The Riff is a very good studio track. It’s boring live, but Lillywhite worked his magic on that one.

100% certified perfection. The richness of the sound achieved on this track is out of this world. This may be the best work Lillywhite ever did with Dave and Tim on guitar.

I agree with this as well. A live staple, a powerhouse, that was masterfully edited. Musically, it is the definitive version. Everything else that happens live is a bonus, but Lillywhite really got it down to the essence of the song.

My biggest studio disappointments (so much so that I wish they'd go back into the studio and re-record and/or remix them):
- Two Step
- Tripping Billies

Those recordings are the furthest away from capturing the essences of those songs that I can think of in the DMB catalogue. I mean obviously there's the RTT stuff, but that's an album that's needed to be re-recorded since it came out.

It's always been Crush for me. Couldn't be a more perfect studio cut. I think it's better than every live iteration of the song from a pure sound perspective. Perfect vocal performance by Dave too.
