Froome is so insufferable. The worst.

In most cases the rider in yellow is behind his teammates, so to conserve energy. Guess it didn't matter as Thomas won the stage.
Yeah , weird dynamics between Froome and Thomas. Seems like Thomas could have left Froome a couple of times..

I assume there are other riders in thread - should all meet somewhere to ride, Phil’s Cookie Fondo looks like a fun one. Bit of a trip for me to get there though..

Damn just read about Nibali and his fractured vertebrae. Considering how he rode after his crash that’s worse than it seemed

Meh? The time cuts aren't so crazy that you can't make it in with a decent effort. It will be a bummer to not have a big bunch sprint in some of the later stages but... if you aren't cut out for a Grand Tour then you aren't cut out for a Grand Tour. Stick to flat single day races. Major bummer to lose Gaviria, he's a phenom.

That would be awesome to get an Ants group ride together someday. I'm west coast, where is everybody else?

I'm Midwest. I'd love to do a group ride, though. Oddly enough, never have.

Have been lazy as hell so far this summer. Haven't put many miles on. Hopefully can get out tomorrow though. I really want to grab a new wheelset, though. The ones that came on my bike I bought last summer aren't the greatest.

What does everyone ride? I have a 2014 Cannondale SuperSix Evo 6 105 I picked up at the end of last summer. Kind of wish I would have went with a Canyon or let the guy talk me into the Bianchi that was a grand more, but I'm pretty happy.

As for the Tour, still don't think it's over. I'm not going to count out someone like Bardet yet. I know it's a stretch, but one bad day for Froome and Thomas brings some guys back into the thick of it.

I bought a Marin Gestalt 3 last year. All road / gravel style bike.It has a 1x10 drivetrain, beefy-ish wheels, aluminum, disc brakes, I run it tubeless. I commute on it but use it for almost everything else too, road rides with friends and such. The roads around here are terrible and its ideal. If I do any gran fondos or something timed I might use my specialized Roubaix, but maybe not. Same issue there for me, the wheel set is pretty low end.
My real love is mountain biking, have a SC 5010 but want a 29er. But I put way more time/distance on the road.

Nice! I've wanted to get into mountain biking as well, but can't justify buying another bike at the moment.

Peter Sagan on the line! What a champion that guy is. I want him to win in Paris so bad.

Fat chance getting me on a bike. I don't ride. I just like watching on TV Lance Armstrong got me into watching the Tour each summer. Haven't stopped since.

I've got a Specialized Crux that I race CX on, and use for longer gravel/fire road/single track stuff.
I ride a Salsa Vaya with 32c tubeless road slicks for my commutes, most road rides, Randoneurring, etc... Its fast enough to keep up with most groups and comfortable enough to ride all day. And I have an older Specialized Allez crit bike that I still pull out every once in a while when I want to feel fast for an hour or two.

Don't worry about that at all, the beginner/C class races are usually pretty low key. Some people take it very seriously because they are trying to move up a category, but lots of folks are there for the fun. The Cross scene is really open and friendly and encouraging. And a little unhinged! But the good kind. Its a waaaaay different scene than showing up to your first Cat 5 road crit. You can race as hard or as casual as you want, and it makes you a much better bike handler.

not the most exciting stage today, but alright. Kinda got 2 races given how big the gap was.

I'd be really ok with Dumoulin sneaking in between Froome and Thomas in the overall come Paris. Not sure it's likely, but possible.

and yeah, this might be the year to give CX a try in the fall.

Unless something dramatic happens in the Pyrenees, I think the Tour will come down to the TT next weekend. If Dumoulin can make up 20-30 seconds between now and the TT, it could be really interesting. That and depending on where Thomas and Froome are in the GC going into the TT, will Sky let them race the TT to decide who wins. Landa and Bardet are both good TT riders, but they will have to do something special in the Pyrenees to have a chance in when the TT rolls around.

Read up on that and this is not the first time Moscon has gotten in trouble. Sounds like a hot head who's actions could cost his team.

Mictchelton-Scott can't buy a stage win this year.

65 km stage is nuts, just up hill straight out of the gate. The expected times on the Tour site are based on 26/28/30 kmh, that's saying something.

And their off... curious to see what happens today. Will Froome attack? Does Thomas have the legs to maintain? Does Dumoulin try to apply some pressure? Or we will see another rider from down the pack, say Roglic, Bardet or Landa, make a charge?

Not the fireworks everyone was expecting. I think we can say now that we know the order of this TDF. Nairo Quintana finally had himself a good day and gets a stage win. Meanwhile the order of the GC riders is exactly as its been all along. Geraint Thomas will win the Tour barring injury. The GC riders waiting for the final 2 or 3 km before doing anything. Tom Dumoulin attacked of course and Geraint Thomas stayed with him and surpassed him as he did in the Alps.

For those of you who do not like Chris Froome, you'll enjoy watching him fail to keep up with Dumoulin/Thomas. He's done.

Yeah, not the most exciting stage today. I wonder if Froome and Dumoulin are starting to run out of gas having also raced the Giro this year. Thomas has 1:59 on Dumoulin now, and Froome is hanging on to third. It will all come down to the time trail on Saturday to see if there will be any movement in the top 10. Roglic has the ability on the ITT so that should be fun to see if he can make up time on Froome and get on the podium.

That is crazy seeing as Sagan is one of the best bike handlers in the peloton. His jersey and shorts were pretty torn up when I saw him cross the finish line. Has any video of the crash surfaced?

Hope Peter is ok to finish the race. Would be great if he is better by the final stage and can win in Paris. But I am sure at this point, just finishing might be just fine.

Sounds like Sagan is ok. Classic quote from the story too.

“I made a mistake. I crashed on a corner,” Sagan said. “I was braking but it was not enough. I flew into the forest and I hit a big rock with my ass.”

    Re: Tour De France

Good to see Quintana get a stage win, he's never going to win the Tour but I love watching him climb when he's on form.

The ITT will be pretty exciting. Dumoulin is one of the best TT riders in the peloton, but probably not 2 minutes better than Thomas. Thomas has been riding and defending incredibly well this tour, if he holds on its a well deserved win.

And I was tickled pink to see the Sky formula that has won them many tours (don't surge, don't respond to attacks, just slowly lift the pace and race with your nose in your bike computer) work against Froome while he tries to latch onto other surging riders to get away and steal some time. Just to crack in the final 2k and lose a position. Shadenfreude I suppose
