I'll take FTWII, just because I like Seven.
Seven has really grown on me, surprisingly one of my favorite tracks on the album.

I'm surprised to hear that Dave said that this was about Roi. To me I always thought it was about having children, their eyes are a beautiful blue color when they are born, and you do feel like you've been punched in the gut when you first see them as the weight of the responsibility settles in and there's nothing like a spontaneous I love you kiss from your child. Raising them you try your best and then letting them fly on their own with their guardian angels watching over them for you because you can't be there every minute to protect them.

I am obviously in the camp of loving this song but I don't think that it is truly about Roi. I think it is about having children. Especially given that it is placed right before YAM on the album.

WIA and LITHOG are definitely tributes to Roi but I'm not so sure about Baby Blue.

I think it's pretty clear it's about Roi. The "first time I saw you, was like a punch right through the chest" line sums it up for me. First time Dave saw Roi in the hospital post accident, it like a punch in the chest.

But like Dave always says, the interpretation is up to you. If you hear it as a song about children and parents then good for you. It's your song now, and you can hear it as you please. A beautiful thing, good music is.

I took that as when dave said he 1st saw Leroi he was up on stage playing music and it was like a punch right through his chest.

Somehow I don't think the original artist will mind the riff being borrowed. And as far as everything else you mentioned - Well, you just don't know a heartfelt, beautiful tune when you hear one. Tool.

Nah. Pretty good songs mostly, but a notch or many notches below the Big 3 all as well.

I'd safely swap Cry Freedom for Baby Blue, so I guess it's big 3 good, but there are still several songs on the new album better than Baby Blue.

lewis, do you mean it's good enough to be on one of them? meaning it could replace the weaker songs on the big 3? or its up there with The Stone and such. questions that need to be answered

EDIT - forgot Spaceman as well here.

I think the last 15 seconds of BB sounds just heavenly, but as a whole I think it sounds more like it came from the Some Devil sessions than anything else.

LITHOG is easily in 1st place for me. I think it's in Carter's top 3 studio performances of all time.

I don't think it's top 20 or anything. I think it is certainly as good as Stay or Let You Down though.

Actually that's what Carter said in the Fuse Doc.

    Good album though.

I don't think we really know at this point.

I do agree that Boyd not being as prevalent on this album is an argument to my point. There is no riff like Pig or Nancies until you get to Write a Song on the bonus disk. That is my only beef with the album.

I consider UTTAD, BTCS and Crash to be the best albums because of how they are played live. I listen to Crash and UTTAD, but can't think of the last time I listened to BTCS or Everyday or Stand Up. And we wont see what the band can do with these for a few months and then they will continuously grow. That will be the true test of this album.

That is strange because I find Crash very hard to listen to on a good system, it's the worst recorded album next to Everyday. That's probably why I usually listen to Proudest Monkey and Let You Down when it's on, they're the songs with the least amount of clipping.

RTT, UTTAD and BTCS are much more palatable to my ears.

Hopefully when RCA finally gets around to releasing DMB's catalogue on vinyl we'll see truly how great that album sounded in the studio, because the CD is not an accurate medium in this case at all.

    I understand.

For me personally, the live versions have absolutely zero effect on how I judge those albums.
