Crust is yellowish on the outside from olive oil, white on the inside. NY pizza rules.

Chicago has to put chemicals in their "food" to make it look acceptable.

Food coloring in pizza?? Well that's disgusting and embarrassing.
any place that makes quality deep dish achieves the coloring with semolina (a natural product to prevent food from sticking to the cooking surface) or from buttering the pan to make delicious butter crust. gino's probably uses food coloring, but they make shit pizza anyway.

It's definitely not unheard of to see/hear Pizza being referenced to as "pie".

    As in, "Pizza Pie".

However, in this case - Chicago's deep dish casserole is more along the lines of a pie than NYC style pizza is.

I'm still sticking with my argument of "If you do a Google search for pizza, you don't get what they make in Chicago".

Whenever someone says they want to get a pie, I think of tomato pie, which is popular in Philly.

Though, if I'm in NY, hanging with friends, and someone suggests we pick up a pie after a night of drinking, I know they don't mean apple.

i'm well aware of the colloquialism, i mentioned it a few pages back. but if you're calling NY style "real pizza", then why do NYers not call it pizza? it's much more common for them to say "pie" or "a slice", in my experience. if it's the real deal, why use alternative names?

i'd rather have an actual pie of pizza (a deep dish pizza) than a soggy tortilla with tomato paste and some Kraft shredded cheese on it.

Yeah, he does a great job (as does Sallies) but now that Pepe has set up chain restaurants the name is tarnished a bit because none of those chains make a pizza anything like Frank does.

I made an authentic chicago pizza last night. It tasted so good.

Here is the recipie, its very complex.

    Step one: Unroll this: http://startcooking.com/public/IMG_1309k.JPG

Step two: spread your ingredients evenly (very important) : http://progresso.com/~/media/Images/...matobasil.ashx

Step three: Use 4 sticks of butter to grease pan

    Step four: bake.

    step 5: profit.

Re: New York vs. Chicago Style Pizza

Ah, I always make my chicago style pizza with Campbell's tomato soup. I'm going to try it your way next time, I might bump up the butter content though.
