Listening to the Cuyahoga Falls Sirius XM show from June 2nd 2018 and Carter was cracking up big time at the end of Do You Remember about something. He's infectious to hear on live shows and has the absolute best live sound.

Random story about Carter's drumming: Back when I first put a band together, I had a drummer that was a Metalhead. I gave him the VHS for Folsom Field so he could maybe grasp the idea of what I was actually looking for from a drummer. He never could, lol. But he could ape Lars Ulrich's style to a tee- sloppiness & stick dropping included.

I was listening to some New Orleans music the other night for Fat Tuesday. I had War, The Neville Brothers and The Meters going. All I could hear was Carter in the drumming. He really pulls a ton of his influence from these bands. The fills and off beats they do in between tight funk grooves.

Check some of those artists out. I'd never really paid that much attention to the drumming details before, but for some reason I was this time around.

All those artists use lots of accessories like Carter.

I wonder how often Carter listened to this back in the day? Two of his biggest influences sharing the stage. 😎

For sure. The thing about Carter that not a lot of people mention, is that the guy is at his core a funk/soul/jazz drummer. You can feel it in his playing. The GROOVE is as big as it gets. And even when people try to emulate it, even if the notes are there, that feel is just lacking in a lot of ways. To really "get" Carter, for me at least, you have to be able to get all that old school funk and soul. To get the feel of that pocket. And to make it groove like a motherfucker.

Man they should name an album this.

But yes. 100%. He's so underrated in the non DMB world. I hate that. But I also love that he doesn't seem to care about that at all. Just likes to play.
