I think they just tried that in Georgia, 9 people got coronavirus and now they are virtual.

Supposedly my town votes Wednesday but it looks like it will be hybrid

I said around here. In PA. Not the same as Georgia and believe me, their plan is way different. I got a 22 page PDF about the reopening. Among other things, we have to have an app that we report his temperature and other answers to medical questions each day before he goes to school.

Berks is a hodgepodge. Some schools going virtual, others opening 5 days, some like mine going hybrid

they'll all be virtual in 3 weeks

I mean there’s plasma transfusions, yes. Let’s hope that’s what he means. Platelets would be a mess to give given these patients are likely heparinized and RBCs just dont make sense to me given my understanding of this virus.

I'm slingshotting daily between feeling really glad my kids are going back to school and thinking their school's plan has a solid chance of pulling it off, and being very very nervous.

my kid's school was a full go for in person instruction up until last night; board decided on 2 days in person and 3 days cyber for at least the first four weeks. kinda fucks us transportation wise because the other kids in our neighborhood that we planned on carpooling with are in the opposite cohort. also no idea how cyber is going to go.

note on this: kid is in kindergarten, which is half-day in our district. the district only provides transportation one way; if you're AM they will pick the kids up in the morning but you have to pick them up on the way home, if you're PM you have to get them there and they provide transportation home.

The county I live in canceled sanctioned youth sports for the fall, which means high schools around here will be next. It sucks that kids are losing their seasons again, but I totally get it.

What's going to also be interesting is what unsanctioned club teams and leagues will pop up and play more in high school's place. I've been wondering for some time if this virus coupled with AAU basketball and baseball and elite club soccer and lacrosse teams among other sports will take a serious bite out of HS sports, pushing us to a possible extinction in some areas. Football seems to be the only safe sport right now as far as not having proper competition outside of scholastic teams.

I think I posted it here, but my high school makes 150k per home football game. There are no other sports without that.

High school football has been cancelled here in CT.

I got my antibody test back last week, negative. Was hoping for a positive not only to have whatever immunity that might entail, but I was also planning on donating blood/plasma in an effort to help people fighting COVID. I guess it's good news that what I've been practicing re: social distancing has been working, though.

That's why I said in some areas. No one in NJ is pulling that kind of money. There are states with nicer, bigger stadiums for their largest high schools than some D-I colleges.

EDIT: But I think HS football is safe in all areas. It's the other sports I worry about.

California is completely remote for elementary, middle and high school for both public and private. Pre-school is the only thing that can be in person.

Do any of your states / counties have something called T-K? It's transitional kindergarten for kids that were born from Sept to Dec. It's technically part of elementary school, but some private schools that have pre-school are somehow moving their T-Ks to underer pre-school....that means they can do it in person. So right now, there is a MAD dash of parents trying to get their T-K eligible kids into private programs. It's been crazy.

My new neighbors (also from California) had that, and it just seems weird to me. Do parents not just hold their kids back there? Here that's what everybody does who doesn't think their kid is ready for Kindergarten.

Yes, pretty much that's what happens. It wasn't like this when I was a kid.

Basically, they believe kids born between those months are not ready for Kindergarten. You don't have to send your kid to T-K, but the option is there so they are at least learning.

Isn’t that the opposite? Or are your age cut offs different?
The Sept - Dec kids are always the oldest in the class.
Here, you have to turn 5 by Sept 1. So if Kid A is born Sept 2, he’s basically 6 when he’s starting kindergarten. Or do you mean Kid A would do T-K on Sept 1 when he was 4, turning 5 in a day?

My youngest turned 5 July 23. He’d be eligible this year for kindergarten. We’re holding him back.

Same in Massachusetts you have to turn 5 before 1 Sept.

Some lady in town made a big stink last year since her daughter turned 5 a few days after and she felt her daughter was “ready” for K, they told her to beat it.

I got my antibody test back last week, negative. Was hoping for a positive not only to have whatever immunity that might entail, but I was also planning on donating blood/plasma in an effort to help people fighting COVID. I guess it's good news that what I've been practicing re: social distancing has been working, though.
I was in the exact same boat as you. I thought for sure I'd had it earlier this year but test was negative. Word is those tests are very flawed so it's possible it was wrong.

It's kinda catch-22. Glad the precautions have been working, but a part of me wants to have worrying about catching it behind me. And like you, I really wanted to donate plasma to help those that are sick. I feel so helpless just staying home. I know it's the most effective thing but it almost feels lazy because it's so easy and uninvolved.
