Oof. That's a price I'm almost willing to pay. But it's $24 that I'd never listen to more than once.

I was at the show so I pulled the trigger. 24 bucks for that vinyl is a good value. Was a fun show to be at the with the orchestra, but it was 2018 which wasn't a highlight year by any means. I missed 2019 due to no socal shows, and now 2020 is a bust. Sure hope 2021 goes as planned!

Just received the Hollywood Bowl vinyl from the $24 amazon link. Its legit! Great deal, but really only bought it because I attended the show.

If anyone doesn't own all of the DMBlive releases, their money would be better spent there than on the 2019 Hollywood Bowl release

It’s easy to get caught up in the negativity of this website. I got the Hollywood Bowl vinyl yesterday and listened to a few tracks on the downloads. First off the quality is great! Mix is really good.

I was curious to listen to squirm because of all the complaining of the “drum
Beats louder” being overdubbed from the album. It’s such a non issue. Those vocals are from the live performance they just put the effect on those words to more match the album style, but they didn’t actually punch in the album vocals like everyone was saying. Don’t believe everything you read on this site!

I’d say if you want a good quality recording from late 2018 with some fun orchestra performances that you don’t hear anywhere else, this release is easily worth $24 for vinyl and download.

If you don’t like the current band setup then skip it.

Bud, no one said $24 was a bad deal. $105 yes. $105 5 LP Hollywood Bowl vs $35 5LP DMBLive First Union Center Winter 98 tour.... 9/10 would choose the latter

You are correct for sure! $105 is a crazy price point and a bit of a head scratcher...

Trust me when I tell you, there's a reason those DMBLive vinyl are $35.00. They are cheaply pressed. The Hollywood Bowl release might not be a great show, but at least it was pressed with respect.

They're pressed the exact same way. The packaging is the biggest cost difference. You're literally paying close to $70 for packaging. One comes in a super dirt cheap, flimsy cardboard with little to no glue, the other comes in a sturdy oversized box with booklet.

There's no way those DMBLive are pressed at the same plant with the same mastering.

All of my 5 DMBlive releases are very high quality. I have one issue with a single LP from Trax but that's it. They're all mastered by Scott Hull who mastered all of the original 5 Live Trax

To you, and that's great...for you. Some of us really don't like it and take some issue with a show recorded live having non-live effects added after the fact. It's really off-putting for me. It's one of the few songs in this set that I was very eager to hear with the orchestra and it's just...not great.

    This, too, exactly.

At $125-$150, which some RSD stores had it listed, and at $105 list on DMB's site - it was a disaster of a release. There's a reason the price dropped to $24.

Well, not "pressed the exact same way". The Hollywood Bowl set was pressed at Pallas, whereas the DMBLive series were pressed at (the now extinct) Rainbo. Rainbo wasn't well regard, and definitely had issues with pressing defects, while Pallas is generally considered one of the higher-end plants. Now, with that said, pressing defects aren't isolated to plants like Rainbo, and I've had Pallas pressings with non-fill or warping issues. And, if you wound up with a bad Rainbo pressed DMBLive, that would be cause for a replacement or return - so no harm, no foul.

I'd also add that the mix on Hollywood bowl is almost certainly going to be better than a full band DMBLive mix. However, where these are very similar is that both were mastered specifically for vinyl by Scott Hull. Mastering is hugely important for vinyl, and in this sense, assuming no pressing defects; both should be fairly on par in sound quality on the vinyl format. And, finally, as you noted, the packaging is driving a lot of the cost differential.

So, yeah, if I were planning to spend $105ish on DMB vinyl from their store, I'd pick up DMBLive First Union '98 ($35), DMBLive Trax '94 ($35), and RTT ($37)

I suppose you and I just have different opinions of high quality.
If you backread to the beginning of this thread, someone explains where the DMBLive were being pressed, and the reason I don't believe mine are high quality. Maybe yours were pressed at a different plant.

They're pressed the exact same way. There's no top-tier and bottom-tier way of pressing. They all run through the same process. Some pressing plants have higher standards of proofing, but they're all pressed the same way.

If you're referring to sound quality then that's dependent on the source, which doesn't matter at all where you get your records pressed.
