No shame in digging the 2005 shows. The band sounded great that year.

I'm supposed to be a big DMB fan and I just realized there are a couple of albums I've never listened to all the way through. LP9 would be another one of those.

Yeah I've not actually listened the WHOLE way through LP9 myself yet. Will set some time aside tonight and stick it on my nice speakers

    Yeah! For me it's
    BTCS / BS
    UTTAD
    Crash / ED

in that order. It was the second DMB album I got after Crash, maybe because it's been with me such a long time... I never had a concept of what "should" or "shouldn't be" DMB back when I first heard them in 2004 - as ED was already out. The songwriting is actually good on a bunch of the tracks (what's not to like about a 9/8 chorus right?!)

Didn't plastic girl only get played like, once? I remember when it debuted but I don't think I saw it pop up on setlists after that.

Twice. Debuted in Camden and played again in Alpine N2

I can see some of these newer songs landing on Dave solo record down the road. Then hope the others will be intermingled with the 04 and 06 tunes for a decent full band album..

I've said before that a Dave Solo EP would be nice to get us through the "year off"

    DM EP 2017...

    Samurai Cop
    Virginia in the Rain
    Death on the High Seas
    Here On Out

** I know that kinda looks like a snoozefest of songs, but I like all four of them for what they are.

    Then full band 2018...

    Sugar Will
    Crazy Easy
    Idea of You
    Bismarck
    Bob Law
    Black and Bluebird
    Kill The King
    Break Free
    Shotgun

    **I think that's a solid album for 3.0

Also, to answer OP's question, assuming his tracklist

    Bottom 3 would then be..

    LP9

Samurai Cop needs to stay a DMB song. We've all been dying of thirst waiting for a song like that from this band to come along.

And I hope Break For It gets looked at for the new album, also a very strong song with a cool guitar riff.

Be Yourself was decent MUSICALLY later in the tour. I enjoyed Jeff's funky sax solo. Lyrically it was an abomination and the music wasn't enough to save it, so I hope this song is dead. Plastic Girl was completely laughable. I can't even believe they thought that was a song they felt ready to perform in front of an audience. Break For it never did much for me. It just doesn't really go anywhere. Its alright, but nothing I'd get too excited for. DOTHS is a great tune and Here on Out is alright, but they sound more like Dave solo songs. I prefer them not taking up space on a DMB record. The remaining songs are all very good songs and I'd love to see them on an album, but not with this collection. Overall, other than Bismarck there wouldn't really be any fun songs on the album, and I think it would fall flat with me.

For some reason, Sam Cop still hasn't taken off for me, full band. First of all, I'm not a huge fan of the lyrics..granted, I don't have kids. But even the music doesn't build and blossom for me quite like people here make it out to. From the solo and D&T renditions I've heard, I thought it found its place there.

Break For It is awesome! But it hasn't been taken off the shelf in so long, so I left it off...Gone since 2010, right? With that said, I guess Kill the King hasn't seen light of day since the Caravans.

    We have?

I have to admit that I'm not really crazy about any of the new songs. I actually like Bob Law a bit better with the full band than Samurai Cop but maybe once they evolve I'll warm up to them.

For one, at this point I'd like more than the standard 10-11 songs everyone seems to stick to. It's probably asking for too much but something like Big Whiskey with the extra Little Red Bird Disc again would be amazing. I still think that Big Whiskey could have easily included those extra songs and been a great 15-16 song album.

I love starting off with Death on The High Seas. How cool would a Roi solo have been in this song? It makes me sad that something this beautiful and melancholy does not have the full band playing on it. I think to open it off on the album it would need to build into a full band crescendo.

    Death On The High Seas
    Bismarck
    (Something new and funky)
    Samurai Cop
    Bob Law
    Virginia Naked in the Rain
    Black and Bluebirds
    Sugar Will
    Break For It
(Something new and angry, Halloween/Rhyme and Reason sounding)

And... pretty much they'd have to add 5-6 new songs on top of the list of 10 to make it exciting for me. Or bring in the 04/06 songs.

Be Yourself had potential if Dave would not just do the tucka tucka dooby doo do stuff. I like the melody and the sax stuff. It's like a 70's funk dance song. Def not good lyrics though. It's too direct for Dave.

Plastic Girl (IMO) is terrible. If you love it, cool.

Here On Out could be a nice solo song to break the album up, but it sounds more like something Dave would do solo. I hope whatever he does with it, includes the string section.

I think if this album were stripped down and done all acoustic I could really get into it.

Also, is there a consensus on Bob Law being one of Dave's most blatant songs about sex... like the physical action of sex, and he doesn't even really try and hide it throughout the song.
