I don't see why them taking down a D&T version of a song has any affect on them releasing a full band version of the song. Was the solo version of Mercy from Fallon removed before Mercy dropped as a single? I highly doubt it was removed because they don't want it out there to make room for a single.

They clearly been in the studio and there's new material to show for it.

Most likely because when they’ve been in the studio before we usually get some kind of video or mention of them actually being in the studio. There was a video back in spring of 08 with them fleshing out what would ultimately become the intro to Time Bomb. During the Stand Up sessions there was a holiday video featuring Carter at the end playing the marimba. I don’t remember Away From the World, but I seem to remember some kind of confirmation they were in the studio that January.

The band’s track record of telling interviewers and fans their studio plans and then following through on said plans have not been great over the course of the last ten years or so. This has probably lead to fans curbing their expectations. Also, the picture you are referring to was posted the week of the benefit concert in Charlottesville. The assumption was that it was for show rehearsal.

I don't agree with this. Nothing against you. I don't know how DMB rehearses but bands usually don't rehearse in super nice full production studios (usually used to make albums) for shows... they usually use a sound stage studio or something. Third Encore in LA, there's one in Nashville, etc. There are rehearsal spots specifically for that.

Just my 2 cents, nothing more.

Maybe, but when you're in your hometown where you have your own private studio (the pic is from Haunted Hollow)? Plus the "#musicandunity" kinda points directly to being there for that concert, which was happening the next day.

Sound stages and warehouses are standard fare, yes, but if it's for a one-off event that isn't on the same scale - any space will do. Especially if it's your own studio space. There are many things that they could have been doing as well. If some of the changes had a new arrangement and they need to have a reference for the rest of the band or for lighting cues to be dreamed up, that's a possibility too.

It's just not always as simple as rehearsal = soundstage.

Yeah this is true, it’s free to use their own studio as opposed to paying to use a soundstage. Also I imagine they rehearsed with Stevie Wonder in the studio to not spoil the surprise.

Not to be a downer but the IG photo you're referencing was posted the day before the C'ville benefit. My assumption was that they were just rehersing since they hadn't all been together in a while. The #musicandunity tag is right there as a part of the post.

I've always been curious if someone like Dave has a studio type setup in his home (homes) or if everything is done at an actual studio. I doubt he has any interest in mixing stuff, but even just for practice if he has some sort of stage setup and microphones and stuff like that at home.

It's odd to me that a band who for so long was "ok" with their fan base knowing studio details has become so secretive. After the Lillywhite sessions fiasco, they certainly have lost something there. Every album after BTCS have seemed to me that they are trying too hard to capture their old sound. Then after Big Whiskey it felt like they wanted to do their best and forget whatever anyone negatively says about their work (which was a huge step in the right direction). And now I feel like the band just absolutely doesn't want to release anything official in fear of criticism. I am a fan of their studio and live work for years now and after so many tours I would like to hear an album announcement from some well known source (Rolling Stones or something like that). Live shows are great especially when I don't have to travel too far to see them but I'm at the point where I want their new album to remind me why I've followed them for so long. These guys are way too good to not be working together and putting new music out in a reasonable amount of time. Either way, I have no control over this and I hope we will get some official DMB buzz here soon.

It takes them FOREVER to finish album release details. They are probably waiting until it's done so they can change anything about it (name, release date, contents, if they even WANT to release it) without us knowing.

Very reasonable, assuming they have a couple songs ready that they like enough to release ahead of the album.

I remember I was at one of the shows in TX in 2012 and the email went out that had Gaucho in it, and it debuted that night at the show. If I remember correctly.
